PRO TIP
Crop and Straighten With Ease
Pixelmator Pro
Pro image editing for everyone
The perfect crop can elevate a photo’s composition, add tension, remove distractions, and make an image suitable for posting on social media—but it takes a good eye to do it right.
That’s where Pixelmator Pro’s ML Crop feature can help. Informed by millions of professional photos, the machine-learning-based algorithm suggests an ideal trim. Just click the Crop button (or press C), then click ML Crop.
After ML Crop suggests a reframing, you’re free to adjust the boundaries or use any of Pixelmator Pro’s other crop-related features to get just the right composition. Here are a few to try:
Auto Straighten
If your photo has a well-defined horizon, instantly straighten the composition using this command. Click the ellipsis button next to the ML Crop button, then use the Straighten slider to tweak the tilt.
Perspective
Fix distortion caused by camera lenses or parallax using the vertical and horizontal Perspective sliders—great for cityscapes and other images with many angles and straight lines.
Overlay
Get some help with framing by overlaying lines for the rule of thirds, diagonals, the golden ratio, the golden spiral, or a simple grid. (By default, the overlay shows and hides itself automatically, but choose Always Show Overlay to see it whenever you’re in Crop mode.)
However you crop your images, everything you cut is recoverable, even after you’ve saved. So experiment and be creative—Pixelmator Pro will provide as little or as much help as you need.
