With the premiere of Hawkeye on Disney+, the sharpshooting Avenger gets his own MCU moment—one he’ll be sharing with some intriguing new faces.
Quick take: Starring Jeremy Renner as the mighty archer, Hawkeye is—of all things—a Christmas story. As the series opens, Renner’s Clint Barton is just trying to get home for the holidays like anyone, universe-saving superhero or not. But when Barton’s checkered past threatens to catch up with him, he learns things don’t always get neatly wrapped up with a bow.
Go deep: The MCU mythology runs deep in Hawkeye, which follows Barton’s life in the wake of not just his heartbreaking role in the events of Avengers: Endgame but also in the film Black Widow, which ended with Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) being charged by the mysterious Val (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) to hunt down the man she believes is responsible for her sister’s death. (We know that’s a lot of MCU backstory: If you need a refresher, both titles are streaming on Disney+.)
