Managing your household budget can be a chore: It’s easy enough to keep track of income, but you also have to track and organize your expenses, including irregular spending for things like gifts and unexpected repairs. Cashculator handles it all—and gives you a high-level view of your finances for planning ahead.

What we love: How easy Cashculator is to use. Pick a template (Family, Small Business, Student, Retiree, and more), then use the simple data-entry panels to add transactions and designate them as either one-offs or repeating events—or import CSV files of bank or credit-card statements. Cashculator’s spreadsheet-like Income and Expenses views let you track categories at a glance, while reports and the Reconcile view make it easy to see how your planning matches up with reality.

The app also includes a number of helpful accessibility features, such as color themes (including themes designed for people with color vision deficiency) and the option to zoom any view up to two times its default size.

The Expenses view organizes your expenditures by category and month; the handy Transactions Sidebar lets you quickly search transactions or browse items in a particular cell, column, or category.

Quick tip: The app’s “scenarios” let you see the effect of major purchases or financial changes on your budget. After entering your income and expenses, duplicate the scenario and add a potential change, such as buying a car—the app shows how that action will affect your budget over time. You can create as many scenarios as you need to test situations like taking out a mortgage, going on a big vacation, or getting a new job.
