Life gets pretty hectic. Sometimes we need to take a step back to catch our breath, relax, and perhaps even spend the day in bed.
That’s the premise of #SelfCare, a game that’s not about winning or getting a high score, but taking care of yourself. It’s set entirely in a cozy bedroom: Your character, wrapped in comfortable blankets, is surrounded by their favorite objects. Tapping these opens up mini-games designed to rejuvenate your spirit. The only battle is against your own stress.
Tapping a plant on the left side of the bed, for example, opens up a breathing exercise. It guides you to slowly inhale and exhale as an animated flower blooms to the same rhythm. You can change the pace of the exercise as well as the illustration (swap the flower for a growing mountain or a geodesic dome). Everything in #SelfCare can be tailored to suit your comfort level.
Other activities include petting a cat, solving word scrambles, coloring a pastel orb, and sorting laundry. Each is soothing and simple to learn.
At the top of the screen, an illustrated sun—your “lifeforce”—functions like a health bar. It rises the longer you do certain activities. Since there’s no way to lose, it’s really just a pleasant way of making sure you’re giving yourself enough time to chill out. As your character feels better, so will you.
