There have been few times in modern history when fearless and accurate reporting are more required than now, in the early twenty first century. The Guardian has no match as far as genuine, independent, investigation and reporting is concerned. The Murdoch press, the Barclay press, the Rothermere press, George Osborne et al, have agendas to indoctrinate their readers with views that support the values and interests of these moguls and politicians. Consider Fox News and their incestuous relationship with Trump, The Telegraph Tories and Brexit, Cameron and Osborne and the Brexit wreckage. Rode their luck with the Scottish independence referendum, inflicted austerity on the working people of the UK then gambled that they could win again with the Brexit referendum to solve their Tory party splits. Lost the bet and now Osborne using his (part time) job to poke fun at the Tory politicians trying their mess.Consider The Guardian; independent, progressive, inquisitive; searching for truth and supportive of the rights of the greater public, ‘the man in the street’.No other branch of contemporary journalism touches them in the search for truth and challenging those with power. Carol Cadwalleder is one inspirational example of fearless, investigative, journalism. Thanks Carol.I am a supporter of The Guardian resident outside the UK , and if HM Government would meet their moral obligations and uprate the pensions of those of we pensioners who paid a lifetime of contributions, but now receive a pittance of a frozen pension (another Guardian good cause), I would certainly upgrade my status to that of ‘Member’.Gerald Cavanagh.
