Awesome app that has really helped me in many ways with my lifestyle and understanding of my weight process… I have lost about 10kg and feel great! One suggestion from my side is to (at a certain point in the user’s journey) give an option to remove the pop up that occurs every time you weigh in (both to log an emoji, and then the one thereafter that says to meet the reading goal to earn your Noom coin)… I think this will be effective especially when you are now trying to just maintain logging and weighing in, the need for positive reinforcement reduces bc it’s now coming from an internal drive, and the pop up just slows down the process of logging when you are on a roll and need to log quickly due to life pressures etc. Thank you Noom!

Nothing new or healthy about Noom’s philosophy
jjj083
Noom clever copy writing and social media campaigns create the impression that they represent a new approach to dieting and that this approach will result in “lifestyle changes” and an improved relationship with food. But when it comes down to the app’s behavioral prompts, they’re no different than the dated, restrictive diets of the nineties. The calorie counter vilifies good fats and some proteins (wholegrain bread is a “green” food, but nut butter is a “red” food and nutrient-dense fish is “yellow”), which disincentives the consumption of essential healthy foods. Contemporary research has shown that cutting out good fats and protein leads to sugar cravings and low energy. The app doesn’t introduce any innovative ideas like fasting, supplementation, or managing glucose / insulin over the day. It doesn’t ask users if they have thyroid or hormonal issues, which may render their weight loss attempts fruitless. What really appalled me is the app’s obsession with daily weigh-ins. This is so obviously a veiled attempt to collect weight loss data from subscribers. But it is also a very harmful request from users with deep emotional scars from yo-yo dieting and body hate, and it directly opposes Noom’s supposed philosophy of sustainable weight loss and mindset change. I had high hopes, but was very disappointed. At the end of the day, Noom is a tech startup who needs to show growth heavyweight investors. And what better way to do this than lure tired dieters in with promises of a “new way”, then force them into weight loss short cuts and weigh ins — to collect data on the “effectiveness” of their approach.
The right support at the right time

I hit a wall 12 weeks into my newsustainable eatingplan lifestyle. Old triggers and old patterns and off the plan i overate 4 days out if 7. I was worried that all the good progress was just going to yo yo upwards again. I searched the web and stumbled across noom. They offered a philosophy of sustainability and support. I never wanted to yo yo again. I wanted a healthy eating lifestyle. I was willing to commit to the path. With noom i got support, great non hype knowledge. Daily short bursts of knowledge and psychology and tips. A support coach regarding MY goals. And after the 2 weeks free trial a group support. Noom was more expensive than I could afford in South African rands. AND it is worth the investment. I am on day35 of their programme. I am back on track. I am very happy that i made this choice.
Best healthy eating app by far!
Simoneandalltheworld
Science based, behavioral change tool that’s easy to use, with information offered in small, palatable chunks made fun! The app is intuitive to use, mentor and tech support great; nothing I would change. Connects with my Garmin to include steps to add to calorie count and is like having a healthy eating cheerleader in my pocket!! I’ve lost over 2kg’s in a week with little effort, just logging into Noom for my motivating learning for the day, weighing in daily, and logging my meals and exercise. The eating better seemed to just flow from this. Highly recommend this app for those who want a tailored learning experience for long-term change.
