Study smarter with Hlayiso Enjoy a refreshed design, smoother quizzes, focused NBT prep, better study tools and an improved experience on iPad.
Exam prep shouldn't feel impossible. Hlayiso is the free CAPS-aligned study app that turns revision from Grade 1 to matric into short, clear sessions that fit your phone, your time, and your data plan.
Whether you're a parent helping a Grade 2 learner read their first words, a Grade 7 student drilling Natural Sciences, or in the final sprint to NSC matric exams, Hlayiso grows with you. One app. Every grade. Every subject that counts.
WHY STUDENTS AND PARENTS CHOOSE HLAYISO
- Thousands of past exam papers with full memorandums, organised by year, paper and province
- Revision notes covering every core CAPS subject, with worked examples, diagrams and mathematics rendered properly
- An AI tutor tuned to the South African classroom, with NSC command verbs for older grades and age-appropriate explanations for younger learners
- Snap any question with your camera and get a clean step-by-step solution
- Works offline for notes, past papers and flashcards, so you can study on the bus or through load-shedding
- Free forever plan. No credit card required.
PAST PAPERS AND MEMOS
Past papers from 2015 onwards, including NSC, preliminary and provincial papers from Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Free State, North West and Northern Cape. Every paper ships with its full memorandum. Built-in PDF viewer, fast search, and a memo toggle so you can mark your own work the way a teacher would.
QUESTIONS BY TOPIC
Past paper questions re-organised by topic and difficulty. Struggling with fractions in Grade 5, electrochemistry in Grade 11, or essay-type Life Sciences in Grade 12? Drill the exact skill without scrolling through an entire paper.
REVISION NOTES
Clean, section-based notes with worked examples, diagrams and proper mathematics rendering. Track reading progress, jump to any section, and highlight what matters. Designed for phones, beautiful on tablets.
QUIZZES
Instant-feedback quizzes with multiple choice, true or false, fill in the blank, numeric input, cloze dropdown, matching pairs and ordering questions. Memo-style explanations and a results screen that shows exactly where marks were lost.
FLASHCARDS
Short cards with spaced repetition, so the app surfaces weak cards more often and eases off once they're mastered. Perfect for sight words, times tables, definitions and command-verb responses.
AI STUDY ASSISTANT
Ask anything in chat. Upload a worksheet, a photo of a question, or a past paper, and the AI walks through the solution in plain language. Voice input and text-to-speech mean you can revise with your hands full.
SNAP AND SOLVE
Point your camera at any question, handwritten, printed, or on a screen. The AI recognises the problem, breaks it down step by step, shows its working, and offers a practice variant for the same skill.
NBT PREPARATION
Dedicated prep for the National Benchmark Tests (AQL, MAT and QL) with practice questions, timed mocks and topic breakdowns for university applications.
BURSARY FINDER
A searchable database of bursaries, scholarships and funding opportunities with deadlines, fields of study and application links.
BUILT-IN MOTIVATION
Streaks, XP, diamonds, daily quests and weekly leagues keep the study habit alive on the days motivation dips. Pair up with a friend and earn a buddy XP boost for logging in together.
ALL 11 OFFICIAL SA LANGUAGES
Foundation Phase supports isiZulu, isiXhosa, Afrikaans, English, Sepedi, Sesotho, Setswana, siSwati, Tshivenda, Xitsonga and isiNdebele.
