This app integrates cleanly with the Phone app. It uses behavioral analysis and call pattern detection rather than just relying on user reports, which helps it catch new scams early.It’s the same technology used by many major phone makers for their built-in protection. Best of all, it doesn’t need access to your contacts.The free version is more than enough here in South Africa. I recommend using Warn instead of blocking. Premium isn’t worth it. Solid performer so far.

Used to have TruCaller. This app works much better, just be sure to have it running in the background and to set it up with your preferences. Not getting any spam calls since setting it to ‘block’.

Lately - since POPIA was introduced in south africa - i get WAY more spam calls. But Hiya on iphone doesn’t seem to catch anything. On my samsung phone it pops up reliably. So i know hiya has a decent database of spammers in my country. I’m often reporting spammers on iPhone but the app itself never warns me of anything. It doesn’t seem to even know a call has come in. I pay for premium but it’s a total waste of money. I’ll be removing my subscription.

I made the mistake of selecting the annual payment option. After many months, as far as I can tell this app has not blocked a single malicious number yet. All of us who subscribed continue to receive unwanted calls and messages with spam and marketing or worse. Also the app is still broken and keeps reminding us to allow background downloads which we have done repeatedly just to be reminded again. I cannot recommend this app.
