Description

Imaging Edge Mobile allows images/videos to be transferred to a smartphone/tablet, enables remote shooting, and provides location information to images captured by a camera.

■ Transfer images from a camera to a smartphone
- You can transfer images/videos.
- The selection and transfer of images after shooting are no longer needed as the automatic background transfer function allows images to be transferred to a smartphone as they are captured. *1
- High bit rate video files including 4K can be transferred. *2
- You can view and transfer images in your camera from your smartphone even when the camera is turned off. *2
- After transferring, you can immediately share your high quality images on social networks or through email.
*1 See here for supported cameras. Files are imported in 2MP size when using this function.

■ Remote shooting of a camera using a smartphone
- You can capture photos/videos remotely while checking the live view of a camera on a smartphone. *3
This is convenient for capturing night views or water flowing scenes which need long-exposure, or macro shooting in which you need to avoid to directly touch the camera.
*3 Models that support PlayMemories Camera Apps can use this feature by installing "Smart Remote Control" (in-camera app) on your camera in advance.

- With cameras that have a location information linkage function, the location information acquired by the smartphone can be added to the captured image in your camera.

You can also apply a saved setting to a camera. *4

Updates don’t work

Current updates to support touch focus and tracking do not appear to work.

Are they for specific models only?

Works as intended for A7R3- still room for improvement

This app is great, regardless of its poor reviews. It does what I wanted it to do. And to me, that would reflect my 4 star rating.

I could consider this to be more of a convenience then a necessity, in which relying on WiFi as a workflow could be highly impractical due to resolution and the limitations of a smartphone as compared to a PC. This is because a cable is almost instant and WiFi is not. Furthermore, smartphone based editing software although brilliant, is rather lackluster compared to computer based editing software.

When using the app, there was a slight lag in remote shooting on my iPad Pro. This of course does not bother me much as I could see this as a useful tool in monitoring a shoot or composing a self portrait. Comparing that to other apps, the lag would still occur. If one could fix that issue, I’m sure the overall rating would improve.

In my opinion the app is relatively basic, which is expected for a free app. I might be the minority, but having a paid version with a Time-lapse feature would be incredible.

Overall, looking up the reviews made me rather reluctant to try it out, but that was not necessarily the case for me. For a free app, I’m happy. Will I use it for my workflow? Probably not. Could I? Definitely.

Frustration to the power of 10

Please advise on how this app was ever released to the Market….
I totally understand if this was a beta version and you were uncertain if it even worked, but this does not seem the case.
This app is very buggy and if you were to count on it functioning as a proficient app you will be disappointed.

I look forward to an updated version where a person can get images consistently one after the other off the Sony A7R IV without crashing and endless crash reports.
