Monitor every river station in Ireland in real time. See flood alerts, track water levels, and watch trends — all through a retro phosphor CRT terminal interface.
PhosphorFlow — Irish River Level Monitor
Real-time water level monitoring for every OPW hydrometric station in Ireland, rendered through a retro phosphor CRT display aesthetic.
LIVE MAP
View all 453 stations plotted on an interactive map of Ireland with river overlays. Stations are colour-coded by flood severity — green for normal, yellow for elevated, orange for warning, red for alert. Dots scale by severity so danger spots stand out immediately. At low zoom, nearby stations cluster automatically with counts. Zoom in to see individual stations with progressive name labels appearing by severity. Tap any station to zoom in and view details. Double-tap to reset.
STATION LIST
Browse all stations alphabetically with current water level, trend indicators, and flood status at a glance. Filter by severity — elevated, warning, or alert — to focus on what matters. Group stations by river to see which waterways are under pressure. Collapsible river sections sorted alphabetically with station counts. Search by station name, river name, or reference number.
FAVOURITES
Mark stations you care about with a tap. Filter the list to show only your favourites. Favourites persist between sessions. Combine with severity filters to see, for example, only your favourited stations currently at warning level.
STATION DETAIL
Tap any station for comprehensive detail: current water level in metres, rate of change per hour, trend direction, and flood status with colour-coded indicator. A vertical gauge shows current level against statistical thresholds — P95, P50, P10, median flood, and highest recorded flood. The 24-hour trace chart plots recent level history. A satellite map shows station location in geographic context. River name, county, and OPW reference number included.
FLOOD ALERTS
Dedicated alerts tab showing all stations currently at elevated level or above, sorted by severity. Push notifications when stations enter warning or alert status, and when warnings clear. Stay informed without having to check the app.
THRESHOLD INTELLIGENCE
Flood status is computed against real OPW threshold data for over 400 stations, derived from historical percentile analysis (P95, P50, P10) and recorded flood levels. Not arbitrary — grounded in actual hydrometric data.
DATA & ATTRIBUTION
Water level data: Office of Public Works (waterlevel.ie), CC BY 4.0. River names: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA Hydronet). River geometry: OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL. Sensors update every 15 minutes. The app caches data locally and only refreshes when stale, minimising network usage. All 453 OPW hydrometric stations with reference numbers 00001–41000 are included.
DESIGN
Phosphor green or amber CRT colour themes. Monospaced typography. Scanline effects. CRT glow. The entire interface evokes a 1980s mainframe monitoring terminal — because infrastructure monitoring should look like infrastructure monitoring.
Part of the Phosphor Suite alongside PhosphorTide (tidal monitoring).
Not for use in emergency planning. See floodinfo.ie for official flood guidance.
