Great app! Makes editing a breeze! I just wish it had tabs, auto-ending brackets, and a nicer way of inserting auto-complete. Still makes it worth it! I cant wait for iCloud sync to iOS!
The MAC vesrsion not as FANTASTIC as the iOS version, but good enough!
I use Textastic on both my iPad as well as my Mac and the integration via iCloud is seamless.
So, why would I, a non-programmer need a coding text editor such as Textastic? Because I design and maintain my own php website and blog and I use Scrivener to write blog posts as well as web page content. I also use Textastic to edit php hooks where necessary to customise my website.
I write in markdown or MultiMarkdown, which Scrivener compiles into .html, and which I use Textastic to open (edit where necessary) and copy the HTML before pasting into WordPress text pane.
Whereas Textastic for Mac does not provide a viewer / reader for markdown, It is a simple excercise to open the .md or .mmd file in the iOS app and see what the final published doc would look like.
I have rated Textastic v 3.3 with 4 stars, but not 5 like I rated the iOS version 7, because it while it is:
- also beautifully designed and I prefer its simplicity to other more complex editors
- it works well for my needs and
- it works seamlessly across iCloud on Mac as well as iOS
The MAC version does lag noticably against the iOS version, primarily in:
- much less love and care from the developer - I suspect a version 4 might be overdue?
- no md or mmd reader built in
- no real user manual dedicated to the MAC version
Hi Textastic- when is v4 due?
Excellent
I especially love how I can use it on my iPad too! Files sync to iCloud perfectly!
