I’m subscribed digitally, and I often read an article from a link received in an email from the Globe. Sometimes the link goes to a browser, sometimes it goes to the app.It’s not always easy to switch to the app, which is what I would prefer, but most of the time I can read what I want to read.Not today with the Covid history in MA article.The link from the home page in the app doesn’t work, and when arrive at it from other ways of searching, it constantly refresh, and I either lose the video embedded - it happened several times - or lose my reading position in the article, and even lose access to the entire article and need to start the search again.I am giving 3 stars because it is usuathis bad

I updated to the newest app on my iPad and immediately couldn’t find the Sunday comics on the list of Sections as it had been on the old app. It took awhile to realize how to find thumbnails and only scrolling through all of them to the end led to comics. Couldn’t even find the comics section by search. C’mon! Also can’t figure out how to get a single page full width view for any page of the paper without manually enlarging the page I get in the two page view! Good grief! This is not an intuitive app and does’t provide easy navigation shortcuts to everything or better page viewing options for people with poorer eyesight. Plus it wants all my personal info to use including financial! I resent that! I’m outta here!

The app isn’t optimized for video storytelling and documentary shorts / op docs like NYT or even the Seattle Times. I feel like the Boston Globe used to do short doc-style video journalism creating videos about the people or happenings in the community. Now their video content is seemingly just a TV studio show with a news anchor that streams through the app. I have no interest to watch that. The spotlight series ‘Gladiator’ podcast on AH was incredible, I was so hooked and really enjoyed the perspectives of the journalist that did the BTS but since then I feel like it’s gone downhill. If the Globe reinvested in video journalism and op-docs, it would surely engage viewership resulting in more revenue. Just my two cents.

I’m logged into the app. If I open an article and scroll down, under the expanded comments, there’s a link that says “please login to comment.” I tap the link, it will either open my phone’s default web browser view of the Globe, (often to a different article) or will open in a mini-mobile web view. This is WITHOUT launching the web browser app - I’m still within the Globe app, but it shows the full article url and is no longer in dark mode. …It’s worth noting that every day several articles (seemingly random ones), when selected from the app Home Screen, open this way. From here, the mobile web option to “open in the Boston Globe app” will loop and do nothing because the user technically never left the app. Either way - still trying to comment: The browser/minibrowser are also logged into my account but won’t let me comment either. Bad bugs for readers trying to stay engaged.
