It must be open all time if you want to get notifications from your iPhone, otherwise it does not work. Should integrate more with the phone, perhaps allowing to switch off the app and still be connected.

Since last 3/4 updates this app is becoming more useless , heavy and expects that watch be configured again after update on iOS phone
