Simply the best game on a phone

TLDR: this is the best game available to play on a phone and at like 500 hours in I still play dailyThe gameplay here is simply amazing. Each individual run takes just a few minutes as you climb the shop rarity from common to legendary and recruit new or upgrade your current fairytale characters. There are cool combos with captains, treasures, characters and spells that can lead to silly things like a Hercules with more strength than there are atoms in the known universe or a tree using a +1000 strength sword or tons of other combinations that make you think, “wow, that was really cool!” Even many hours into the game.The experience and interface is extremely tight and clean. There are no ads and the battle pass system is super optional, you can really tell it’s there more so the developers can keep making cool things, not because they are trying to take advantage of you. I found this game while it was still in early access and played the previous iteration by the same team years ago and I probably have 500+ hours in this game on mobile and I still play it daily. I will almost certainly be continuing to do so as well as long as the servers are kept online!

So first off this game is awesome, found it from a youtuber called Mr Fruit and i've been hooked ever since. love that it's on mobile but i also have it on my pc. a free game with no ads on the appstore is unheard of these days. you don't have to spend any money, buying packs can speed up some of the deck building but not by much so really the only thing worth it is the battle pass. unfortunately with this last update my game crashes after it being open for about 15 seconds :( super excited to try the new cards once this gets figured out though!
Best game on the app store hands down.

I got to play the game when they launched at GenCon and have been playing since. I have enjoyed it a lot, and loved to watch it as it developed, however I’m incredibly disappointed at the cash grab turn it took once they launched officially. Giving those of us who had been around since the beginning gems was nice, but locking one of the most popular Captains under a paywall feels greedy. “Thanks for the data, here’s how we’re going to take advantage of people with it.” Everything else checks out as a free to play, with option to spend money to progress faster game. It’s fun, though with the amount of time it takes to unlock new cards and no ability to earn gems, only buy them, it gets repetitive.

We strongly believe in the free to play experience and we feel like this is a really good balance that allows players to enjoy the game as much as they want for free, while still allowing a friendly revenue model that will allow the game to thrive for years to come!

Poorly balanced, but pretty fun

I feel like balance is a bit of an odd thing to talk about for a single player game, but the problem is just so painfully apparent in this one that it’s impossible to ignore.Some of the characters are just so overwhelmingly useless compared against others, on top of being unfun, that you might as well just concede the fight turn one and hope you get a better selection on the next run. How can you have a character that gives a small flat bonus in a niche situation, in the same game that has other characters with compounding bonuses whose strength frequently skyrockets a few rounds in?The “mid-tier” characters are a bit more reasonable, and what should be the minimum standard of character strength. Their abilities aren’t always useful, and you can end up just getting really poor shop options guaranteeing a loss, but it’s uncommon(not rare) enough that they’re still fun to play. There’s no real penalty for conceding games, so the lack of balance isn’t the worst thing in the world. It just feels tedious at times, especially when you get bad characters on multiple runs.
