Cashflows helps you forecast future balances of your bank accounts. It's simple to set up and requires minimal effort to maintain.

Tell it about your recurring transactions (including transfers between accounts) and future one-time transactions, and let it estimate your account balances months (or years) into the future.

It's not interested in the past, so there's no need to enter or maintain your transaction history.

It shows your account transactions and balances over time and lets you override individual payment dates and amounts. Quickly toggle payments on and off to see how they impact your future balances. The graph updates immediately with any changes you make.

Update the starting balance occasionally, and it'll show you which transactions are still due. If any have already occurred (or are late) just tap to toggle them on or off.

FEATURES:

- Multiple accounts: Add multiple accounts and set up recurring or manual transfers between them.
- Recurring transactions: Supports recurring transactions with start date, end date (optional) and many recurrence options.
- Warning balance: Set a warning balance for an account and see at a glance when your balance is below it.
- Interactive forecast graph: Shows your future balance over time, highlighting warning balance and negative regions; tap the graph for a closer look at the nearby transactions.
- Multiple account selection: CMD+Click multiple accounts to cycle through them as a group and compare balances on the graph.
- Generate reports in PDF, CSV or XML
- iCloud Sync with Cashflows for iOS: http://appstore.com/nicolacavanagh/cashflows
- Backup and restore your data to Dropbox or iTunes.

MANY USES:

* Planning Future Purchases:

This is a great tool for forecasting payments for a future loan, mortgage or car lease. Create a recurring transaction for the payment amount, fill in the first and last payment dates and see how it affects your balance. Make adjustments to figure out what you can afford.

* Planning for Change:

You might have a recurring bill that increases annually (such as health insurance). Simply create another recurring transaction to represent the increased payment and set its start date appropriately, and adjust the end date of the original transaction. You'll immediately see how it affects your finances in the future.

* Planning for Uncertainty:

The forecasts are only as accurate as you need them to be. If you plan to pay a minimum amount per month onto your credit card, set that up as a recurring transaction. Once you decide how much you want to pay this month, just override the forecast amount. You can always edit or delete the override later.

* Getting Out of Debt:

This app can help you get out of debt, and figure out how long it will take. Enter a recurring transaction between your checking / current and loan / credit account for the minimum amount you intend to pay each month. Extend the forecast period (tap "More" at the bottom of the Forecast page) and then look at the Balance Graphs for your accounts. If you can afford to pay extra in a few months, override that month's payment (or create a one-time transaction for the additional amount). You'll instantly see the effect on your checking / current balance, loan balance and when the loan will be repaid.

Good App interface terrible sync and datafile management

I purchased both the mac and ios versions today. The Mac OS version worked very well and functioned as I expected. Trying to sync my data file to my iOS device and neither iCloud nor DropBox sync work. THey both fail. Export/import via itunes also fails. I now have 3 copies of my account within the app that I can’t get rid of. Developer should spend some time debugging the file management of this app. The potential to corrupt the data file is very high. Without a reliable import/export/back/sync system the potential for data loss is high.

SO FRUSTRATED

I worked for 3 days to set up our accouts and budgets. It wasnt without some issues but was working for what we needed. Went to sync with the cloud and ALL MY DATA WAS LOST. I can’t believe it. EVERYTHING GONE! I want to cry and punch the screen at the same time. Do not use this app.

Developer Response ,

Hi - Sorry you're having problems with the app. Did your data disappear after checking "iCloud Sync enabled"? The app uses a separate data store when iCloud sync is enabled, and toggling this setting should switch between the two stores. If you uncheck it, does the data return?

Currently Underrated! Allows Recurring Transactions to be scheduled down to Daily Frequency!

This app is the best I've found. I wanted an app that I could project my cashflow with and own outright instead of subscribe to perpetually (Mint, Quickbooks and Status don't classify any transactions accurately yet anyway). I was using Zentaflow (free) online for about a month but it didn't really allow me to save, record or adjust in any kind of functional way. I downloaded Cashculator but that doesn't allow you to set up recurring transactions on any interval smaller than a monthly basis. I get paid biweekly so in some months I get two paychecks and in some I get three. Additionally, on monthly intervals you could dip into the red but not know it because the resolution isn't high enough. So this is important for me. I also tried CashForecaster but I didn't really like the interface. For me, Cashflows was the most functional for my purposes and intuitive. I haven't tried sync'ing up but I don't need access across multiple devices. Those reviews are from a few years ago anyway.

How I Use it:
I set up all of my accounts first so I am able to do cash flow projections for each. I even set up accounts for my investments and assets and have appreciation/depreciations projections based on the initial balance and interest rate (balance %, available when you set up recurring transactions).

I finally feel like I have a grip on my personal finances and feel confident when I look at the projections that if I stick to my budget, I can trust these numbers and adjust my spending/earning accordingly.

I would like to see the ability to just two finger pinch, zoom out on the projectiontimeline as well as more lables on the x and y axes there. Categories for expenses would be nice. It would also be cool if some sort of quick and easy pie or bar chart could be made very quickly for a given time period to should you spending. A line chart for certain types/categories of expenses over a period of time to show trends would be cool too. But as it is, is totally usable.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the great feedback! Let us know if you’d like a promo code for a free copy of our new app, “Cashflows Pro” (requires iOS 14 or an Apple Silicon -based Mac).
