The Minnesota Wildflowers Info. app was developed to serve as a convenient offline complement to MinnesotaWildflowers.info, ensuring that you can access the information even in areas with no internet connectivity.
The app has profiles for 1,861 plants with over 16,000 images covering:
•118 Aquatics
•91 Ferns & Fern Allies
•1,149 Forbs
•159 Grasses
•24 Rushes
•209 Sedges
•175 Shrubs
•98 Trees
Each profile contains a detailed description with insight into how the species is distinguished from similar species, a distribution map for Minnesota, a table of traits and general information, and images. A complete list of plants that are known to occur in MN is also included.
Added a Favorites list to make it easier to save and revisit plants. Plants can now be added to the Favorites list by swiping right on a row in the plant table and removed by swiping left.
A user-friendly, multi-access key assists with plant identification. As traits are selected in the multi-access key, plants lacking the trait are eliminated, and traits that do not narrow the results are grayed out.
As an additional feature to assist with plant identification, two plant profiles can be compared side by side by turning on the “Comparison View” setting in the app.

If you have a Phone app that tries to ID your plant you need to cross reference your results on Minnesota Wildfowers. There you will learn what you truly have or do not have. It is THE very best reference for plant ID. I work in habitat restoration and MWI is excellent at splitting look alike plants apart in the notes section, where a quick click will let you look at the alternative(s). I use it to train my seasonal technicians. It lessons their weed pulling toil misery. Thank you Katy!
Love this app
Nycgarden
I use it all the time. Well organized. Can use it in the garden as well as in the field -away from WiFi or cell data. ONLY complaint is that it must be updated to make use of Dark Mode. The text is too pale to see on the info pages when my phone switches to dark mode. Please Fix! UPDATE: quick response from developer! Well done. I will see how it looks tonight when dark mode kicks on.
Developer Response
Thank you for the review! Feedback and requests are much appreciated. Dark mode support has been added!
Best wildflower app for Minnesota
Woodwines
The new app incorporates the best of their wonderful website. It has beautiful photos and accurate descriptions and information. As one who is just learning about plants, I have always relied on their website, but now it is good to have it all one touch away and not need web access, which is often lacking in the north woods. It loads quickly and is easy to use.
National maps please
no nicjname
This app is excellent for identifying midwestern plants (including trees!). It includes nearly all the information you might need: is it native? Invasive? Common names? And helpful hints for identification and comparison. My only complaint is the app doesn’t show national distribution maps, which are on the website. Those of us in Minnesota-adjacent states (I’m in northern Michigan) would truly appreciate seeing those.
Big fixes to sort. Minor UI improvements.
