SkullGirls is very clearly a passion project and I love it. The animation, the music, the gameplay, and structure of the game is wonderful, and I’ve definitely put a lot of time into this game in the past few months I’ve been playing! And unlike other mobile games, SGM only requires that you spend some time playing rather than spend actual currency to make progress in the game, which is actually really nice and makes it far from being pay-to-win! The developers clearly put so much time, care, and attention into this game and have created something so beautiful and fun. However, if you’re planning on getting into SGM or you’re a parent of a kid who plays/wants to play, I highly recommend turning the chat function off. While the game could be arguably rated 12+, the chat is absolutely not. There are countless people that use the chat function not to ask for advice or discuss gameplay, but to spew a LOT of inappropriate things. Whether it’s about underaged children or graphic adult drawings of characters from the game— or even just straight-up hate speech— the developers just don’t seem to care what goes on in their game chat. I can usually ignore this and move on as an adult, but what bothers me is that this game is rated 12+, so I really do think this is a massively inappropriate problem to have. But again, bravo to the developers for creating such a masterpiece; I just hope they can make the chat more of a safe and comfortable experience.
