Description

Americans inadvertently donate 3X more to politicians and PACs through their purchases than they donate on purpose. Let's change that!

Goods Unite Us is a women-led, Madison-Wisconsin based company with a well-established track-record of providing accurate data.

Enter a company or brand name. And we’ll tell you what we know about the political donations made by the organization and its senior employees.

Corporations earn profits off of your everyday purchases, and some of those profits are donated to politicians and causes you might not agree with. Most of us are unaware of this because that information hasn't been readily available. Until now.

Last, but certainly not least, we recently added a Politicians feature. This allows you to easily look up your favorite politician and instantly see the companies that support him or her!

How We Vet The Political Donations

Our team has spent thousands of hours vetting companies’ political donations with the tools available to us, and we’ll continue refining our data to ensure our results are as accurate as possible. So far, we’ve focused on organizations’ spending in federal elections, and our next step will be to vet state expenditures.

Great App, but Reliance on Meta for Commenting is Concerning

Goods Unite Us is an important and well-executed app. The concept is valuable for conscious consumers, and the interface is clean, minimal, and user-friendly. It covers a wide range of brands with enough information to help make informed choices.

That said, I have some feedback for improvement. It would be great to have a way to access more detailed information about the brands or the sources used for their political affiliations. While the app does a good job of summarizing, additional context could enhance transparency and depth.

Also, this is a critical point: the blog only allows comments via Facebook. Many of us have left Facebook (now Meta) as part of our activism against the platform’s practices. Relying on Facebook as the sole option for contributing to conversations creates a barrier for those who share your values but refuse to use that platform. It excludes a significant part of your audience who would otherwise engage meaningfully. Offering *Politically Neutral* comment systems, like email submissions, or an in-app comment section, would be far more inclusive and aligned with the principles Goods Unite Us seems to promote.

Overall, the app is a fantastic tool, but I hope the developers take these suggestions into consideration to make it even better.

Everything I needed that I didn’t know I needed!

This app is so well done! I found myself in a rabbit hole constantly online trying to figure out who and what companies fund specific candidates and policies. I’m so happy that someone has developed this app. It’s so well organized and also so eye opening. I like how it caters to all parties, and mostly the quiz that gives you an overall sighting of where your spending your money. And then it gets even better when they breakdown alternatives to get you on track to putting money in the companies that contribute to the candidates and polices you believe in.

Good App, One Concern

I truly appreciate the work that has went into investigating companies and their contributions to political parties. I like being able to view this all in one place. However, I am concerned as to why companies whose political contributions are “Moderate”, yet they contribute mostly to Republican candidates, are given a negative score regarding Campaign Finance Reform, yet those with “Moderate” contributions on the Democrat side seem to be given positive scores. I’ve seen this across all levels of Contribution Levels, and it remains the same for those who contribute mostly Republican- they receive a negative score, while others are given positive scores. Perhaps I’m not reading something correctly, but this does concern me, as I don’t see how Campaign Finance Reform is more negatively affected by a company contributing the same amount towards campaigns, with the only difference seemingly being their political leanings.
