Ratings and ReviewsSee All
Overall I love this game. The graphics are beautiful, the gameplay is intuitive and there is very little learning curve. It’s fairly easy to collect shells and I adore the ad model being a rewards based opt-in method (usually I delete games because there are too many ads but them being incentivized is keeping me here). It’s a relaxing game and it’s easy to lose yourself in it, which I love.
I knocked a star off the rating because the micro-transaction model used in the game discourages me from making purchases. While the prices for things are generally reasonable, the price for clearing large rocks continuously increases. That makes it difficult for me to estimate how much money I would have to spend to clear every rock and it also makes me unlikely to spend the money because I know it’s just going to increase more. At the moment it costs 30 moonstones to clear one rock and it costs 99¢ to get 25 moonstones. It costs over a dollar to clear one rock and I know that price will only increase.
I realize mobile games rely on micro transactions so the developers can get paid and I whole heartedly support that model as a whole, which is why I only knocked one star instead of two, but these prices seem astronomical and that makes me less willing to support the game financially. Regardless of that though, I recommend the game as it is truly fun, relaxing and beautiful.
Amazing graphics and design
I was looking through games in the App Store, but I couldn’t find one that was right for me. Until I found Super Starfish (Call it Shooting Starfish because it makes more sense). This game has AMAZING graphics combined with loads of creativity. Just some ideas for the developers: There should be certain event fish that have certain aspects to them, such as being smaller, faster, or better turning. Another idea I have is to customize your fish (Give them different colors, or costumes, etc.) as well as leveling them up to unlock abilities or something. One thing that DOES bother me is the price to clear rocks. Clearing rocks means you are able to place plants that look cooler. However clearing a rock starts from 5 moonstones, to 10, to 15, and so on. I’ve heard a lot of people complaining about this, so I’d recommend either raising the price at a slower rate, or setting the price to a certain amount (10 or 15).Anyways, this is a great game, and I’d recommend downloading it.
Update: So I’ve been playing some more and I’ve realized that there should be a use for collecting stars. All they give you is points. That doesn’t really motivate players to actually collect them. Maybe give extra shells once you’ve gotten a high enough point score? Anyways, hope you add something like this in the future updates. Great game! 🤩
A few feature requests
I have to say that as soon as I laid eyes on this game back when it was a preorder, I knew I wanted it. And now that I have it, I'm not sorry. And I know this game is very, very new, so new features are being worked on even as I type this (maybe even ones I'm thinking of), but there are just a couple of ideas I immediately noticed would make the game a little better. A few reviews have said that adding some sort of mission or quest system would be ideal, and/or also earning some amount of shells for your score in stars after every run. I also think we should be able to sell starplants for a few shells, as I have found myself running out of room for them, and also getting a lot of just one kind and wanting to have a bit more diversity in my sanctuary. I also think we should be able to name our starfish. I know the game automatically gives them names, but I'm sure at least some people would want to give them their own names. Okay, I think that's all. The only other request I can think of at the moment is starfish sets based on seahorses, eels, sharks, and dolphins/porpoises (I still have one more set to unlock, so for all I know, one of those is already in the game). I think whales might be a bit much, but if you can find some way to turn a whale into a tiny starfish, then by all means!
