First impressions...

Sat down properly with nkoda for the first time last night to get to grips with it. I was astonished to see the range of scores it contains. Some real rarities too. I dread to think what the physical paper music would set you back.. I'll be staying subscribed for now even if I don't use it regularly, it's just good to know it's at my fingertips if i need/want it

Terrible new app

I’m a professional musician so the scores are indispensable. However it’s become so difficult to operate. Much slower and time consuming now. As an example, the Bartok Concerto for Orch score doesn’t seem to fit the screen, is crooked on some pages and cut off on others. Get rid of the screen that says “you already have the reader app”, just go straight to the app! I already quit my membership once and I’ll give it another try, but I’m saddened by these changes and don’t know how much longer I can rely on this app. Also seems like the parts hardly have any margins for notes now which isn’t going to work…I’m sure there are workarounds for many of these things but it’s definitely not apparent or easy to use.

Thanks for your review.

Upcoming updates to the nkoda music reader will allow you to search the library directly without having to go back to the nkoda library app. To search the complete nkoda catalogue or view content saved in your library or playlists you will need to use the library app for now.

To add margins for notes, please head to your reader 'Settings', under Score display settings select 'Border', and then change border size.

We also have tutorials on YouTube that show you how to get set up on the music reader - we hope they can help you get to know what the reader can do.

nkoda is frustrating at best

Nkoda's commitment to contemporary music is wonderful- and their library of scores is a huge help for any musician.

However, the app and website is so buggy that it borders on unusable. I get logged out at the drop of a hat, all the sudden my password won't work, scores magically get removed from my library, and the actually interface is *incredibly* slow. For 10 dollars a month, I expect a basic level of usability from the app.

Also, it's been years- where is the "search by instrumentation" feature (not the one you can access when looking for a specific piece, just a general search based off of the instruments in the piece)? I know people have been asking for this for YEARS, it would make it so much easier to find pieces for your ensemble.

I want to love nkoda, I really really do- it's just too broken to be reliable. What if it logs me out or breaks while I'm on stage performing? that should be something I never have to worry about.

Hi, and thank you for your detailed feedback, it's much appreciated!

Our product team are currently working on functionality and interface improvements - much of which has been improved in the newest updates to the music library and music reader. If you haven't already, please be sure to download the latest updates and let us know what you think at contact@nkoda.com.

We will also be implementing a 'search by instrumentation' tag in the future as we know how important this is for musicians - it is certainly in the pipeline. It is a big project for our small team, but please be assured that we are working on it!

We completely agree that complete reliability whilst performing is a must. Our latest update to the music reader has greatly improved reliability in terms of not being logged out, accessing your library from the reader itself, and improved offline usability. Our product team are working hard to make the app as reliable and seamless as possible, but please send us further feedback if you have specific improvements you would like to see.

Thank you and all the best.
