Layer Platform
Home for your building's data
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Layer was developed by architects for the AECO industry and can be connected to a Revit model to bridge the gap between real-world building data and BIM.
App Features:
— Contextually organize detailed project information like materials, photos, surveys, measurements, notes, and tasks into a single library, streamlining workflow and reducing time-consuming redundancies and costly inaccuracies.
— Customize a wide range of data fields to capture every aspect of a building or project, which can then be instantly accessed both in the field and at the desk.
— Connect Layer to Revit to view, edit, and sync real-time data directly to a building model, giving the entire team — from architect to owner — instant access to absolutely everything.

**AI Agent Workflows Are More Capable**
You can now use AI agents to complete more project work end-to-end, including smoother template and view workflows. We also improved reliability for larger jobs so long-running actions are less likely to fail or time out.
**Company Management and Access Improvements**
Company management now has clearer project-level visibility into users, roles, and activity. We also improved role handling during company and project changes, with safer owner and collaborator behavior when projects are reassigned.
**Field and Table Behavior Is More Consistent**
Formula support now includes more built-in functions, and table filtering/sorting behavior is more reliable (including empty/not-empty select logic and pagination stability). Related field behavior was also hardened so reports and automations stay accurate.
**Faster Everyday Navigation**
Project quick actions and pinned project ordering are easier to use, and element detail/activity views load more reliably. Search performance for element picking was also improved in high-volume projects.
**Bug Fixes**
- Fixed several signup and magic-link edge cases so account access is more consistent.
- Fixed document-view caption and layout issues that could affect file-heavy views.
- Fixed a set of company-management and element-detail regressions that could interrupt common workflows.
**Improvements**
- Improved drawing and annotation workflows for a more consistent document experience.
- Rebuilt iOS camera capture for more stable mobile field capture.
4.9.1 Jun 8
**Image and File Review Improvements**
Web image previews now support smoother zoom and pan interactions, making it easier to inspect attachments without switching into edit mode. Picture caption editing is also faster, with support for saving changes by pressing Enter.
**Report and Export Reliability**
This release improves report generation and delivery across several export flows. Generated report files now saw improvements to prevent some 403 download errors, and document-view exports no longer include stray internal bookmarks.
**Automation, Search, and Permissions Fixes**
Scheduled recurring automations are now more resilient under heavy load, with stronger scheduling behavior and better monitoring so failures are easier to catch before they affect customers. Search, filtering, and export results now stay in sync when related-element values change, and the company "Add to all projects" workflow now repairs and applies the correct role more reliably across existing projects.
**Bug Fixes**

**AI-Powered Field Updates (Beta)**
AI-assisted field updates are now more reliable and easier to control. This release improves how Layer understands context and writes field values, with better handling for people, dates, select values, and related data. It also adds project-level AI permissions so admins can decide which roles can use AI tools.
AI-powered field updates are currently in beta. Reach out to the Layer team if you'd like access enabled for your workspace.
**Document View Enhancements**
Document view now gives teams more control over polished deliverables. You can use Google Fonts in document layouts, add annotation text to attached files, and generate reports more reliably when related data is included. Together, these changes make it easier to create branded, multi-file reports directly in Layer.
**Company Management Updates**
Company admins can now manage more of their workspace directly in Layer. This release adds a company dashboard projects tab for browsing company projects with key details, and expands company administration controls so admins can update company roles and authentication settings in the app.
**Formula Filtering**
Formula builders now support filtering functions, making it easier to create targeted automation logic and work with lists of values without extra manual cleanup.
**Improvements**
- Improved offline behavior so projects no longer show misleading sync activity while offline, and returning users see filters apply more reliably after reconnecting.
- Improved sync consistency so server-side metadata and automations stay aligned when deferred changes are pushed later.
**Bug Fixes**
- Fixed a permissions issue that could let restricted users navigate from activity history into fields outside their allowed view context.
- Fixed bulk edit search for relationship fields so linked records appear correctly when searching.
- Fixed automation filter setup so RelatedV2 fields appear as expected when configuring filters.
- Fixed report generation issues when related references are stored as string paths instead of document references.

4.7.0 Apr 14
**Improvements**
- Improved the way sorting on text fields with numbers, letters, and special characters works in the app.
- Updated the API to filter element field data down to just the field included in a view when the `/elements` endpoint is called with a `viewId` parameter, which should dramatically increase the speed and reduce the size for affected queries.
- Updated the API to use a buffered response mode by default for queries under a 32MB limit for better PowerBI integration.
**Bug Fixes**
- Fixed a bug causing the “Clear field value” button to not result in a log in Activity pane.
4.6.14 Mar 26
- Fixed a bug where user’s Just Me views could be removed from their side navigation bar without the user removing them

**Improvements**
- Improved logging for the Element Sync Engine and added a diagnostic output to the debug menu.
**Bug Fixes**
- Fixed a bug allowing users without the “View project activity” permission to access the activity tab on the element pane.
- Fixed a bug causing select field values in document view to not have a line height consistent with other types of field values.
- Fixed a bug causing hidden containers in document view to occasionally impact vertical spacing despite not being visible.
- Fixed a bug causing project backup ZIP files to not have a visible download URL.
4.6.9 Mar 19
