Explore paint colors, plan a mix and work out how to recreate a target color.
ColorMixer brings mixing tools, hobby paint libraries and a flexible color picker into one app.
MIX
Choose your paints, explore blended colors and adjust their proportions. Use the recipe view to see percentages and parts, add ingredients and save a mix for later.
UNMIX AND CONVERT
Choose a target color to find a suggested recipe using basic colors or the colors in My Colors. Start with an existing paint to explore what you could add to move it toward a target.
PICK AND FIND COLORS
Use the color wheel, enter RGB, CMYK, HSL or hex values, or pick a color from a photo or the camera. Search paint libraries by name or code, including Tamiya, Mr. Color, Humbrol, Testors, Vallejo, AK and more. Paint-library updates arrive from our online catalog.
MY COLORS AND SAVED RECIPES
Keep favorite colors and mixing recipes together. Organize My Colors by brand or paint type, and sort by name, hue, brightness or date added.
DESIGNED FOR IPHONE AND IPAD
On iPhone, follow the familiar color selection, blend exploration and recipe flow. On iPad, keep ingredients and the live result side by side, with Explore and Recipe views in one workspace. The interface follows your system light or dark appearance.
Mixing previews are estimates; the result of mixing physical paints can vary with the pigments and materials used.
So far so good, but it’s missing quite a bit. I’m using this to visualize which colors I need to make the perfect hair dye color. Definitely needs more color options, especially a “make your own” color from a color wheel. It’s hard to find specific colors. For example, the color I want has magenta in it. So, I want to see which colors magenta is composed of. I can’t find a pure magenta on the color choices. Or maybe the app assumes it’s a primary color? Don’t know. This app would be perfect and so helpful if it could keep the chain going. Will be waiting for an update!
Developer Response
Thanks very much for your review. To select an arbitrary color, tap on the top color box to open the color picker and from there you can choose color from the color wheel or use slider to control color values in RGB, CMYK and HSL color models. Magenta is a prime color, theoretically pure magenta cannot be mixed from other color but you can mix it with other colors to create different shades of it. We are working on a UX refactoring to make it more intuitive to use and the next version after that will include picking color from image or camera. Thanks very much for your support and please stay tuned for future updates!
Realism Varies

This app is almost perfect but has one major flaw. When I was testing the color mixing features for accuracy, I noticed that every time I mixed yellow with blue, I would get a gray shade or a very muted grayish-green. This should be how digital color mixing works, but this app claims to simulate real pigment mixing, and for the most part it does, but it never works with yellow and blue. If there is something that I am doing wrong, please inform me of what to do, because this is the best free color mixing app I have found by far.
Don't be discouraged by negative reviews
kiddingmyself
I usually scroll by if an app doesn't have 4.5+ stars. I almost did that with this app, but I'm so glad I didn't. It has so many useful features to better understand color, color relationships and paint mixing. This app is invaluable for artists, painters, photographers, cake decorators, designers, students and just anyone who wants to learn more about how colors relate. Try it out. You won't regret it!
Very good App for Oil Painting!
DirkDigglerDan
I use this app to understand mixing oil paints. It’s extremely useless and you will learn from using it. Even if you have too much paint left over, you can use the app to see how to change from one color to another with exactly percentage to use to convert. Hopefully the app developer continues with this app!
