Maybe I judged this app too hastily before. I’m coming back to update my review and to say it’s actually pretty good. The reason I gave a premature review earlier is that the app prompted me to leave a review when I was only about 30 minutes into it. In my opinion, a person should have more experience with an app before leaving a review. So I switched my target language to Español and I’ve been happier with learning it. The conversations make more sense now. And the other benefits of this app are still true from what I mentioned before: that the native speakers sound very good, the app gives you plenty of chances to practice, and I love that it teaches both conversations and vocabulary words. Now that I’m learning Spanish I was able to see that there really is a lot of material to learn so I finally decided to subscribe. Also, the Spanish learning course has a lot more instructional videos, and as they say it is good to really take your time in learning it. When you start a new unit and it dives in to teaching you a new conversation, you can take your time and press each word of the sentences you are asked to repeat. When you do this, it sounds out the word for you and even highlights the letters you are hearing. If you do this several times, your pronunciation really will improve. I took high school Spanish for years and I already sound much better than I ever did then. Thanks for making such an incredible app, Faloü!
Need for Speak: Fast & Furious

I’ve taken grammar, and though I love the challenge it is quite difficult to learn Czech, being a native English speaker. Remembering all the cases was difficult at the start, but even knowing as much as I know now, it’s so difficult to speak quickly and naturally when I’m too busy thinking of what the cases should be. Even then, remembering which word endings still does not come naturally. So, being able to practice speaking already feels much better. I do get to practice very little at the store and sometimes with friends, but I know I say the wrong endings or my grammar is bad, and people are gracious, and just continue with the conversation, knowing that they understand what I meant to say. The problem is that I get in the habit of saying it incorrectly. This app is actually more strict than I expected it to be, and that’s great because it is forcing me to pronounce the words well. My teacher is and friends, and even strangers have commented that I already speak well, but this app make sure I speak better. I greatly appreciate that. I want to be able to speak naturally, not sound like a foreigner, struggling with the language. nothing against anyone struggling with languages. I have great appreciation for anyone who speaks a new language. I just personally want to speak Czech well because I actually love the sound of the language.
Honest review and this is so underrated

This is my second review and I’ve been looking at most of the reviews it’s an amazing app and sorry for mentioning Duolingo a lot of the other one but I have been trying to learn Portuguese because most of my family speaks it I’ve been really wanting to learn I’m just nine and they have amazing courses for me to go I said I was nine it’s not gonna be that many hard work and there’s one word I just can’t say it’s meat but in Portuguese it’s a little hard and they keep showing me and showing me because they’re realizing that I can’t say it correctly so they even did a little course and it helped me so much on saying that word this app is amazing it is underrated but the only problem is which a lot of people are occurring is that the voice track thing isn’t working that well I said most of the words perfectly or like I heard it I thought it was that until I just kept saying the same word in the same word and it said wrong and also it’s not a bug but I recommend that maybe when you get it wrong it would make kind of sound not just have it at the bottom so you can know even if you’re wearing headphones and out paying attention you just repeat it not just wait for the little thing to turn it to an X or the checkmark
Better than Duolingo but some issues
GJR1969
I am a language teacher and have been learning languages for 40 years. I am also a translator. The good: The communicative approach is vastly better than Duolingo. You learn much more practical vocabulary. The bad: 1) Still some sentences you are unlikely to encounter in daily life 2) The system often fails to correct you even if you’ve made big pronounciation mistakes 3) Nothing reslly accounts for alternate means if saying things - like different word order 4) You are often asked to say complicated words that were never introduced first 5) They start you using grammar structures with no rhyme and reason. I know Hungarian grammar but there is no way on earth a new speaker will get “polcra” in Hungarian (onto the shelf) without more extensive practice. 6) It seems if you skip around to other languages, you lose your level on the one you were working on - you should be able to be a beginner in Korean but advanced in Catalan. 7) This irritates me the most: it is not “new” vocabulary to have a word in a separate case - no Falou, having “híd” (bridge) and hídon (on the bridge) in Hungarian is not two different vocabulary items! That is a lie! 8) Never ever present a word in another case just alone without a basis!Dear Falou - Take it from someond with 40 years of language experience - doing an AI cut and paste from a language like Spanish to a language like Korean or Hungarian will not always have satisfactory or meaningful results.
