The Albums app does not support direct importing or scanning of local folders/files on your computer independently. Instead, it relies on your system's music library managed by the native Apple Music app (formerly iTunes). You'll need to add your music there first, and Albums will then access and display it for playback and organization. Big question…. WHY?!?!?! I don’t use Apple Music (whatsoever). You made an incredible looking and nicely featured app, and I was so ready to purchase the lifetime license…and then I realize that for whatever weird reason, you don’t let me even import my music directly into your app (locally saved and owned music). Therefore, the app went from super-exciting, to ‘can’t even use’, and I don’t see it plainly mentioned in the app description unless I somehow missed it. Please add the feature to directly import my music folder into your app and scan the web for metadata, and if you must integrate with 3rd part music apps, then please add VLC functionality, or pretty much anything but Apple Music. I will never use Apple Music/iTunes, ever. Then it’ll go from 2 stars to 5 stars. Thanks for your consideration.
Thanks for the excitement and feedback about Albums, even if it doesn’t have the functionality you’re looking for. Local file support is on the longterm roadmap, but it will take a while to get there. In the meantime, I wanted to note that the first words of the App Store description are “Albums is the Apple Music player that puts you in control of your music” and I try to make clear during the first-install onboarding that it requires access to your Apple Music library to play music. I’m not trying to deceive anyone that the app does something other than what it says on the store.
