Next is the easiest way to enjoy all the songs you already know and love — from today and the past.
WHY USE NEXT?
We’ve all been through those moments when we want to listen to music but don’t know which one to choose. Then we set the player to shuffle mode and start skipping songs until something we like starts playing. Yep, we know that feeling.
WHAT DOES NEXT DO?
Next comes with Magic DJ. It’s like a shuffle mode — but smarter and tailored just for you. When you tap Play, Magic DJ automatically creates a mix using songs that you already have in your music library. It perfectly balances your top hits with some hidden gems, effortlessly playing something that you’ll like. You can create new Magic DJs based on specific artists and genres and choose from different types of mixes: Balanced, Rediscover Songs, or Prioritize Favorites.
Next also automatically creates playlists that help you explore your music taste. With the Playlists tab, you always have quick access to all the artists and genres you most care about — and even those recently added songs that you don’t care much about yet. The playlist Forgotten Songs helps you browse and rediscover hits that you used to play a lot but got buried in your music library.

Good idea. Opens some questions.
Overall, good idea.
What works well: it has surfaced songs I haven’t thought about in a while which I have missed. It’s also surfaced songs I have been glad to remove.
What could be improved: The UI needs some work (needing time switch tabs to see what’s playing feels unnecessary).
The question: this has opened up what look like holes in my historical Music data. Songs which have been labeled “never played” have indeed been played - albeit not in over a year. But I suspect that could be an Apple issue and not an app issue.

Thanks for your review! We're glad we could help you discover more about your songs. About the "Never Played" playlist, this is a good question. It really looks like it's not an app issue, but if you'd like to help us investigating this, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org so we can take a look together. We'll also take your feedback about the UI under consideration.
Absolutely Phenomenal Music App
I’ve enjoyed using this app for the past few months and I’m honestly more and more surprised every time I use it. It really does help you rediscover songs you use to love and listen to. I don’t use shuffle in the music app anymore. This is 100x better. If you’ve used Apple Music for any significant length of time, this is a must purchase.
For those curious, it basically gives you a customized playlist of your entire library that changes every single day. The songs in the playlist are shuffled and the shuffle takes into account your listening history (i.e. how many times you’ve listened to different songs in your library over the entire time you’ve had Apple Music). You don’t have to save the playlist, though I’m pretty sure you can if you want to, you can just play it and enjoy listening to a mix of songs you use to love and haven’t heard in a while, along with songs you currently enjoy. In my experience, the playlist is spot on every single time. And like I said I’ve been using it for months.
From one developer to another, you’ve done a phenomenal job with this app.
The notion of better generated playlists is how this app drew my attention when I was looking online for third-party Apple Music apps. This app does live up to exactly what it says and does so with a clean, easy interface. However, my experience with Next quickly went downhill as I attempted to alter a setting that would prioritize lesser played songs. The app said it was refreshing my music library, which it then continued to do for the better part of an hour as the app ran in the background with my phone awake. After an hour, I closed the app and reopened it, only to be greeted by a loading wheel, which after another hour led me to believe that it would continue forever if I let it. I reinstalled the app and found the same issues again.
Even if this app will run successfully on your phone, paying $4.99 for a glorified shuffle button was only worth it to me because I had leftover gift card funds. As Apple continues to refine and update the functionality of their Music app and Apple Music services, it will be apps like this one that will quickly and increasingly fall into irrelevance.
