Welcome to Tandem, the platform that connects child care centers with job-ready staff, allowing child care workers to work on their own time for the first time ever.
The Tandem app allows child care workers to pick up shifts at child care centers based on their set schedule, pay and distance preferences, and experience. Shifts can be both short-term and long-term commitments, ranging from a one day substitute role to a full-time permanent role. Prior to picking up shifts, all child care workers must go through the process of getting or uploading their credentials so that they meet state-requirements to work in a child care center. This may include, but is not limited to, a background check, a valid form of identification, etc. Upon getting credentialed, all child care workers will be eligible to pick up and work shifts. Once shifts are completed, workers will receive payment. Their earnings will be sent to their TandemPay account, where they can transfer the money to their personal bank account or spend immediately on a Tandem physical or virtual debit card. Funds can also be added to the Apple Wallet, for easy use. Workers can continually pick up shifts and be re-booked at centers they’ve previously worked with.
PICK UP SHIFTS AND GET PAID DAILY
It is our mission to allow child care workers to pick up shifts at child care centers, on their own terms. We help workers browse a variety of child care center shifts in their area. The available shifts may align with the worker’s schedule, pay or distance preferences, and experience. Workers will be able to set up a TandemPay account, where they will receive their funds. Through their TandemPay account, workers can immediately spend, save, or transfer their funds.
• Walk through a seamless, in app experience to get credentialed to meet state-requirements to work in a child care center. This may include completing or uploading a background check, uploading documents, and/or completing trainings.
• Filter on available shifts in the app to find the shifts that meet your schedule, pay, and distance preferences. Filtering will narrow down the results for you to browse easier.
• Pick up shifts at child care centers. Apply to shifts and you will receive confirmation via app or a text from a Tandem customer representative.
• Build your profile by adding a profile picture, an introduction biography, past experiences, and references.
• Establish your reliability score by completing shifts, clocking in and out on time, and earning reviews from centers.
• Attend confirmed shifts and clock in and clock out via the app or provided QR code.
• Receive payment after shift into your TandemPay account, where you can immediately spend, save, or transfer your earnings.
• Create long-lasting relationships with child care centers.
HOW TO PICK UP SHIFTS
1. Sign up and create your profile today.
2. Complete your profile and begin uploading or getting your credentials.
3. Add your availability and additional pay, distance, and shift preferences.
4. Browse shifts by filtering for shifts that meet your schedule, pay, and distance preferences.
5. Apply to shifts that you would like to work.
6. Tandem will send you a notification or text once you are confirmed for a shift.
7. Review shift details in the My Jobs tab of the app.
8. Complete your shift. Cancel or mark yourself late in the app, if necessary. Beware, this will have impact on your reliability as a Tandem worker.
9. Once the shift is completed, your shift earnings will be sent to your TandemPay account.
10. Spend, transfer, or save the money you earn from the completed shift.

I am giving tandem a one star because of their communication. I have been working with tandem for the past few months and it was going great. I then encountered a problem where my account was frozen. Tandems business hours start at nine Monday through Friday and I texted them on Friday because thats the way to communicate with them is on a chat. Unfortunately they don’t have a phone number so I was waiting all day on Friday trying to get my account back up and they didn’t answer at all. I waited over the weekend and even sent an email hoping they would see it Monday morning. I then have been trying to text them all day today. Today is a Monday so they should be open. I have gotten no responses. My account still remains frozen and I am now missing out on two days worth of pay. I understand stuff like this happens where there can be glitches or any kind of technical issue or an account might accidentally be frozen, but what I don’t find acceptable is the fact that they’re not even communicating with me. They’re not messaging me back. There’s no phone number so I can’t talk to somebody. I have to rely on a chat and they’re not even replying so now my account has been frozen for the past five days and there’s nothing I can do about it and I’m missing out of money. It’s very disappointing and unacceptable that their support team is not helping their workers when it comes to issues with the app.
Babysitting, tutoring, and now pet care!?

I started babysitting on this app a few months ago and have easily made more money in half the time than I did when working at Starbucks. I’m in college and this is a great app for students because they only send you jobs based off the availability and $ rate that you can and want to work. They also have tutoring, which is something Ive always wanted to do on the side for younger students but didn’t have any certifications. (I’m sorry, but you don’t need a certificate to help a 4th grader with math homework 🤣) ! So now on Fridays I tutor, I babysit whenever I see a job that I like (mostly one time jobs for me personally, but there are a BUNCH of weekly / recurring ones if that’s your cup of tea). And NOW … THEY HAVE PET SITTING! I literally get paid (more than I did when I did wag and Rover) to hang out with pets. They don’t talk, scream, or throw temper tantrums. The pet thing is pretty recent, but Ive made some good money off it. Just need more people to find it and post their pet care jobs haha.

I’ve been using tandem for about 1.5 years now. This is basically how it works: families request sitters for specific dates and times and they state their hourly pay up front. Sitters create a bio and then look through the jobs on the app and choose which ones to accept (some of them are called “quick-fill” and you get the job as soon as you accept it and some you apply for and the family gets to choose one of the sitters from the applicant pool). Sitters get a Tandem debit card and money is automatically transferred from the family to your tandem debit card after each job I started using tandem in college to make some extra money. I filled out a bio, got my background check, and started getting matched with babysitting jobs and could pick the ones that fit my schedule and desired pay. Before tandem, my babysitting gigs were few and far in between and the amount of money I would make wasn’t always clear up front. This app took away all of the guesswork and waiting. Every job states the location, date, hours, pay, and number/ages of the kids. Most families will also include a little snippet of info or expectations they want you to know before accepting the job. After your job ends, Tandem automatically messages the family with the amount they agreed to pay and 100% of the money is transferred from their bank account to your Tandem debit cardI would genuinely encourage anyone who enjoys spending time with kids and wants to make some extra cash to try out this app
