I initially rated this app 1 star because the app gave me trouble when I was firing up the grill and using the Signals and Thermoworks app for the first time in a year. I couldn't paste my password. App’s fault. Then, when I did get my email put it, the app told me it was connected to a different account. My fault. I forgot I had used a private relay email with Apple. I got a nice response from the developer to my negative review on the app store, and so I called support. I immediately got a live person (Nuemmy?) on the phone who was extremely helpful and friendly. She was great. Exactly the kind of customer service one would hope for but rarely gets. ThermoWorks just got a customer for life after helping me out so quickly with my support call. Highly recommend their products and support. My only mild complaint is that the app is finicky when it comes to pasting into the password field. I’d also prefer to use AA batteries than have to remember to charge my Signals after use. Other than that, the product and app are great. Totally worth the money to have a top quality probe thermometer and great support if anything goes awry.

The app is now very easy to use and the Wi-Fi connection and Bluetooth connectivity is rocksolid with the Smoke Gateway. The graphs are great. The device is very accurate for both checking oven air temperature and meat temperature. I even begin to notice that one of my double wall ovens was off temperature. I replaced the oven temperature thermistor and then recalibrated the oven using the Thermoworks Smoke and Smoke Gateway with the air temperature probe. Being able to track the graphs at certain fixed temperatures for over an hour showed me accurate heating curves for the oven so that I could get it calibrated properly. All from the comfort of my recliner while watching TV. The oven now works like a dream and as expected. And the wife is very happy as her baked goods now turn out predictably. So kudos to Thermoworks for the improvements they’ve made in their app.

I’ve owned other Thermoworks products over the years and had a pretty good opinion of the company until now. I received the Smoke Gateway as a Christmas present and was excited to get it. The gateway allows the Smoke X4 to connect to the internet and app for greater functionality… I should say allegedly allows it to connect. Per the company website, “Intuitive in-app setup walks you through pairing the Smoke Gateway to Smoke base unit…”. This statement couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve read other reviews about how bad this app and the gateway are; I thought they were just people who aren’t good with technology. I have no way of knowing their skill level but I know mine and of all the devices I’ve setup via a companion app or IFTTT over the years, this is the absolute worse. I’ve wasted hours on this thing. The setup in the app and the device do not align. They state over and over that this is a 2.4ghz only device, so I disabled the 5ghz on my router. Nope, the steps in the app will not setup the device, period. The app and device are completely useless, so now I guess they want me to spend hours on hold for the privilege of speaking to their Support team. Who has time for that? This reeeeeally shouldn’t be that hard and anyone with some tech savvy should be able to set this up. Fix the app/product or take it off the market. This experience is terrible.

This review is solely about the app, not the actual physical product that it controls. The actual thermoworks RFX is absolutely fantastic. Super accurate and the range is unbelievable. I use it because of that but honestly, the app is just no good. The ambient sensor and each probe all have different sessions and their own graphs and you can’t do one session with multiple Signals. Honestly, the fact that they call it a session instead of a cook tells you who’s designing this app. You guys need to make something way more intuitive and user friendly. Not having the probes and ambient sensor on the same graph to compare how their moving against each other honestly makes the sessions kind of useless. The whole app is just really clunky and not well thought out. I’m assuming they hired someone overseas to build it for them. I really just use it without sessions to see the temperatures on each probe. I still would 100% recommend the RFX because it is leaps and bounds beyond every other wireless temperature probe on the market. I’m assuming they’ll make progress with the app. Honestly, if I could have the MEATER app with the RFX hardware I’d be in heaven.
