Finally, an app that understands YOUR kidney disease.
Managing a kidney diet is overwhelming. Every food label feels like a puzzle. Generic nutrition apps don't understand phosphorus additives, potassium limits, or why your dietary needs are completely different from someone at a different CKD stage.
KidneyPal changes everything.

Snap a photo of any meal or nutrition label. Our AI instantly analyzes it and gives you a kidney safety score based on YOUR limits—including hidden phosphorus additives that other apps miss. Get smart swap suggestions to make any meal safer, and chat with the AI to ask questions about what you just scanned.
LOG MEALS YOUR WAY

I was so excited to see that you could take a picture of a recipe and it would automatically populate. Giving all the values needed. But when I created my own recipe and used specific ingredients, the phosphorus, potassium, sodium, etc. were all inaccurate. And wildly inaccurate. So I don’t believe I can trust this app to give me accurate information for my son‘s condition. So sorry.
Developer Response
We take accuracy very seriously, so this concerns us. We'd really like to understand what happened—could you email us at support@kidneypal.app with the recipe and ingredients you used? We want to investigate and make it right. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Something happened

There was some sort of update to the app that makes me worry about its accuracy. It is suddenly scoring everything way differently. Just to test it I took a recipe that I imported from the national kidney foundation that last week it scored as 25 a very good score I resubmitted it under a different name and now it's a 55. It is scoring my meals that hit not even a 1/4th of my daily limit as high kidney burden. It's disappointing because based on my numbers it's doing great for my lab results but now it wouldn't even hit my lowest limits if I had something like 8 meals day because it will only approve like celery. It's suggesting things like a tbsp of salsa is a high kidney burden with a score of something like 85. And while I know I should use moderation last week it was okay with that.
Developer Response
Thank you for flagging this — you're absolutely right. We recently updated the scoring algorithm and it's being too aggressive. The actual nutrient estimates are still accurate, it's just the kidney impact score that's off. A tbsp of salsa shouldn't score 85, and a kidney foundation recipe shouldn't jump from 25 to 55. We're rolling out a fix soon to bring scoring back in line with your actual intake and personal limits. Your daily nutrient totals in the diary are still reliable in the meantime. Really appreciate the detailed feedback!
So far, so good

I’m being diagnosed with CKD. The doctor is moving more slowly than I like. While I wait I must wrap my head around what is going on and be proactive in my lifestyle changes.I like the app but wish a couple of things were different. I am unable to see a means of searching the recipe database. I’m currently on the 7-day free trial. Tonight I wanted to know if having salmon was a smart idea. I still don’t know.I’m new to tracking these food metrics. It would be nice for a beginner like me to have a cross reference back to the logged foods so that I can learn which foods caused me to consume too much phosphorus. If the app is searchable but I’m unable to see it, I will gladly increase my rating to five stars. Right now this app is the only thing helping me protect myself. Thank you for creating it.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, and for trusting KidneyPal during what we know can be an overwhelming time. A new CKD diagnosis brings so many questions, and we're glad the app is helping you feel more in control while you wait for answers from your care team.Great news: recipe search just launched in version 4.3.0! Update the app and you'll find a search bar at the top of the Recipes tab. Your timing is impeccable.Your second suggestion—tapping a nutrient like phosphorus to see which logged foods contributed to it—is excellent and something we're actively working on. That kind of cross-reference would be genuinely useful for learning your patterns.Thank you for the thoughtful feedback—it helps shape what comes next.

I have searched all over for the perfect app and this is it. I showed it to my nephrologist and he loved it so much. He’s showing it to all his Dietitians. This app takes the thinking out of what you’re cooking and how much to eat. It does the thinking for you and I highly recommend it.
Developer Response
This made our day! Hearing that your nephrologist loved it enough to share with his dietitians means so much to us. That's exactly the kind of impact we hoped KidneyPal would have. Thank you for spreading the word.
