Love the concept but…

Great start but we need a lot more options for fish and more customization options. We need to be able to make changes to tanks once we add them. We can’t update pictures. The app overall is going to be great but there will need to be several upgrades for it to be more useful to user, especially those with larger tanks.

Developer Response
Thank you for your valuable feedback. We're excited to announce that Aquabuildr V3.0 now offers a fully enhanced user experience, featuring expanded customization options, a wider variety of fish species, and the ability to add custom fish. If you have specific fish you'd like to see in the app, please share your suggestions in the feedback section, and we'll strive to incorporate them within two weeks.

What was once a good idea that wasn’t quite there is now very usable!! Still missing some features like tank backups for import/exporting to avoid having to re-enter data, some fish I’d like to see added/supported (like the Hillstream Loach, or many non-bristlenose plecos (like my leopard pleco!) With this new update, I can finally abandon my spreadsheet!! Thanks for your hard work devs! ……………………………………..Update: much respect to the devs! Thank you very much for adding my fish!!! ❤️😅 The UX has also gotten so much better for adding fish since I left my original review. The biggest thing would be what I suggested in a YT comment on the release video saying a type-ahead search that would avoid a double layer drop-down would be more intuitive. So surprised and pleased to see it implemented as well, and so quickly 😍 I’m sure that one was already in the backlog before I suggested it tho 😄So excited to hear that you guys have also added the import/export features to the backlog!!! 🫡

Developer Response
Thank you for your valuable feedback. We have added the import/export feature to our development backlog and plan to implement it in the near future. Additionally, we are pleased to inform you that we are actively working on a custom addition feature, which will allow users to add any species not currently available in the app. This feature is anticipated to be available by September. We also appreciate your fish recommendations, which you can expect to see in the app within the next two weeks.

This app is well designed. It has that going for it. Great UI. The UX however, not so much. Adding equipment to a tank is weird. You can’t add more than one filter or more than one heater to a tank. The inhabitants list separates males from females of the same species; why not just list “German Blue Ram (2m, 2f)” or something? Lists inhabitants by date modified, not alphabetical. Need a subscription ($60/yr) to have more than one tank. There are free apps that let you have unlimited tanks. Their fish database has incorrect information and pictures for many fish. Their database also has a suggested male/female ratio for every type of fish. That’s important for African cichlids…but not neon tetras (and I challenge anyone who thinks they can accurately sex juvenile neons). Their tank builder uses the incredibly outdated “1 inch of fish per gallon of water” rule, as it doesn’t take into account the bioload of the fish (a 6inch kuhli loach produces much less waste than a 3.5inch bristlenose pleco). It told me a 75 gallon, with 10 congo tetras and nothing else, would be overstocked. App has a ways to go. It’s back to Aquarium Log for me.

Developer Response
Thanks for the detailed review, John — we really appreciate it! 🙏 In version 4.7 (1.11), we’ve refined tank logic, improved database accuracy, and added an AI toggle so users can set up tanks their way. Multiple filters, heaters, and better sorting are in our upcoming updates. Your feedback helps us evolve!

I just want this to remind me to do the ‘tasks’. But it doesn’t give me notifications. Opening the app every morning is not what I want to do. It’s useless for the one thing I want. It also doesn’t change the date for the ‘next due’ if I’m late doing a task. I need it to automatically put the next one x days after the day I logged doing it. The only thing it does is syncs through the cloud which is good since both my husband and I maintain the tanks. But for now we’ve set up Apple reminders which were a pain. Please make this work.

Developer Response
We have had multiple updates that should have corrected all of these issues for you. We apologize for the lack of communication due to the fact our comms were not working and streamlined. If you have any further feedback, please reach out to nathan@futrix.io. Thanks!
