When my partner and I decided to take the kids on a vacation, we were looking for an app where we could get a countdown and also share the dates with the kids so they could request the days off work and see the countdown too. During my search, I found a Reddit post where this guy (Blake) said he created an app called Outside. So I downloaded it and it was exactly what I was looking for! Even better really. If you’re looking for a countdown app of any kind, or want to be able to share important dates with friends or family, I really recommend Outside. It’s designed really well and has lots of options for creating your events. Being able to share it with my family is so much better than just putting it on a calendar. The background photos and countdown makes the events that much more exciting.

Great app with free widgets, but minor bug recently

Outside has been a great app for countdowns, and since I started using it at the start of this summer it’s been great! Even with just the free features there is a great amount of customization, and it’s been a great app. However, a few days ago I started seeing a bug I’d never had before. I like to put my countdowns in days and turn on detailed units, which in the past has been great. However, recently my countdowns have all been a day off. I have one for tomorrow that should be less than 24h away, but it currently says 1 day 20 hours instead of just 20 hours. Similarly, for something I have two weeks from today, it says 14 days 15 hours etc instead of 13 days 15 hours. This does not completely break functionality, since if I turn off detailed units it still effectively counts the right number of days, just rounding up rather than down. Still, this was not something I experienced on countdowns even a week ago.

That off-by-a-day rounding with detailed units was a timing bug on our end, and it's now fixed in the latest update (0.88.5). Please update and your countdowns should read correctly again. I really can’t believe this app is free and you won’t believe it either. And no I’m honestly not paid to say this but I would say it for free and I guess I am. You can put your own picture in there you can have a live countdown I have five in there so far and I haven’t seen anything telling me I can’t have more. There are widgets although I can’t seem to get the one on my watch to work I don’t know why. But they have really cool widgets on your phone. I do wish you could put two events on there instead of one or multiple if you have multiple but I’m fine with the way it is. And you can share it to Facebook or other social media. Even to groups. I got on here originally because of my high school reunion but now I’m going to use this for everything!

Don’t even bother with other countdown apps. Your search is over. I don’t normally leave app reviews, but because of the exceptional service I received I had to make it known. I’ve tried a handful of other countdown widget apps. Most of the others are cluttered full of ads or just downright hard to use. This one is simple. The free version has an incredible amount of functionality. And it does exactly what I needed to and more. When I had an issue I couldn’t solve and thought I would have to abandon this app and find a different one. Their support team was able to help me by issuing a fix on their end within a few minutes. No review is going to do this app or its team justice so just try it out.
