The essential tool for all musicians playing traditional Irish, Scots, Welsh and Breton music!
Ever sat in a trad session and wondered what was the name of that great tune someone just played? Well now you can search a database of over 22,000 tunes from your iPhone/iPod BY PLAYING!
Hold your device up to a melody instrument such as the tin-whistle, flute, concertina, uilleann pipes, accordion or banjo, hit record and the melody will be extracted and submitted to the tunepal.org search engine for matching.
Matching tunes are downloaded to your device, where you can view and edit the notation or the stave, email the tune, post it to facebook or play it back using the high quality playback engine based on ABC2MIDI and FMOD.
All the rave reviews are nice, but, loaded on my iPad, wouldn’t record without the website connection.Played the sample tunes, Added a few tunes, and today it won’t play any of them. Can’t make the connection to find any help... ahhhh, technology.Glad others are having better luck.

Fixed noW!
Great and very useful app. Needs reliable back-end

This is such a useful app for finding Irish tune names in a session (or even out of your head, if you can play a snippet of the tune on an instrument but can’t recall the title). It does have frequent back-end outages, which prevents tune name lookups and is annoying. It will save them as “Unsubmitted tags” that you can upload later for ID. But by then the moment is usually gone. Hopefully the developer can remedy this issue. Would even be worth a small annual subscription ($5-10) if more money would buy a better backend service.
Great App!

Useful app at sessions. It doesn’t always find the right tune, but I wouldn’t expect it to. The accuracy is pretty darn good though. Really happy the app was finally updated and now works offline! I also like that the app does not collect any personal data…all apps should be that way.
Please fix bugs!

It used to work but the last update was 5 years ago. It crashes when I try to record, when I press on the preferences, when I press on the map, when I try to save a tune to my list. Luckily, saving to my list works after I re-open the app, but it had to crash before I can do that. Maybe new iOS upgrades have rendered this app obsolete?
