I got KakaoTalk to talk to one of my friends who has a Samsung phone so I could contact them from my iPad. There are many fun elements to KakaoTalk such as how you can design your profile, and how there are many MANY cute emojis, both animated or not, that you can send to your friends. There are also themes that change the background art and the app cover and all of them are super cute. The themes are based on different KakaoTalk characters that you see in the emojis. Along with all of the good features, there are many bad parts about KakaoTalk. It takes a LONG time to send pictures and even LONGER to send videos. Also, recently, KakaoTalk has been VERY annoying. Messages are delayed and take a while to send, and pictures and videos take even longer now. Also, some parts of the app are in all Korean. I get that this is a Korean-based app for Koreans, but if you have the language set to English and something in Korean pops up it is very annoying. If KakaoTalk were less glitchy and it loaded faster, this review would be 5 stars.UPDATE: They fixed the extreme glitching! This review was previously 3 stars because of the recent bug, but I’ve now updated it to 4.

Listen now I only use this app to access my account which is on ZEPETO because ZEPETO is connected to whatever this app I’m using is called and tell me why I accidentally delete my app. I go back in put the exact same password in and says oh this is not your account oh I can’t find your account, but I literally use the same resource to log into the account now I feel at this point these kind of apps try to scam you to get your information and hack into whatever personal stuff you have so be careful on these apps. This app has audacity to tell me that my phone number wasn’t used for the account that I logged into when that’s the only way I could possibly get into this freaking app so I’m like this is stupid and they’re just trying to get my information so I had to turn my cookies off to make sure they can’t like hack into my account or cause virus, but whatever is trash and I really hope that people stops connecting with these apps because this is just stupid and this is the only way you can really play the game because you need to login and save your account but also having a problem because I logged in recently or not too long ago I had two year old account and I logged in with Facebook says oh that’s not your password to Facebook I’m like how do you know if I made the password? How are you gonna tell me I don’t know my password like what OK I’m so done with these apps but I swear y’all better fix this cause y’all are gonna go downhill and stop making money from doing this kind of stuff.
Horrible app that hogs up local storage space

I hardly ever leave reviews, but KakaoTalk is a special kind of bad. It is by far, the worst app I’ve ever used. Any media that is shared in chats will be stored locally on your phone, doesn’t matter if it’s been sent or received. For even moderate users of KakaoTalk, it’s not uncommon to see that KakaoTalk takes up gigs and gigs of space on your phone. For heavy users, KakaoTalk can take up all of the remaining storage space on your phone (we are talking 100+gb), and then give you messages saying the app can’t be used because it is out of storage in addition to your os getting cranky because other apps no longer have storage space to work with. KakaoTalk can use up more local storage space than you photo library containing tens of thousands of images, how crazy is that? There is an option to buy cloud storage from KakaoTalk to alleviate this problem, but unless you’re in Korea and have a Korean phone number, good luck trying to purchase it. Today, it was reported that the entire KakaoTalk network is down because of an incident at one data center. This is mind boggling. A service with such a large user base and one that powers other essential services like payments, has no redundancy and no resiliency to an issue in one (maybe their only?) data center. This is inexcusable and should be embarrassing for any “tech” company. Very difficult to trust KakaoTalk based on these very troubling issues with their app and service.

I love everything about this app, it’s so customizable, cute, creative, and just, amazing! There is a very bothering issue that I really don’t like though. When you are in a very active group chat, you may have up to over 600 notifications a day, and having that much notifications on my phone REALLY drains its battery. I personally am not on group chats very often, so notifications for them aren’t important. I decided to mute them, but the badges on the app still appear, and my battery STILL drains quickly because of it. You may say to just turn off notifications completely, but I still want notifications for individual chats, as I don’t want to have to keep hopping back onto the app over and over again to check if I have new messages. Adding a feature which allows you to completely disable or mute group chat notifications without having badges too would be AMAZING, and the app would then be perfect for me. Please consider this suggestion! Overall, amazing app!
