Intimidated by what it takes to write a sonnet? Don't be. PortaPoet has live guidance for many popular forms, sonnets included. Syllable, rhyme, meter and other poem form guidance as you write.
* Write: Was that ten syllables, or eleven? PortaPoet counts as you type, shows which lines should rhyme and whether they do, and marks the meter where a line drifts off its beat. Tap a line and the notes for that line sit right under it.
* Share: A poem deserves readers. Publish yours and other poets can read it, like it and comment. Follow the poets you enjoy, and their new work lands on your home screen.
* Battle: Cake or pie? Pick a side and throw down. Call out another poet head to head, or post an open challenge and let anyone take the other side. Write for your team, and when the battle ends readers vote. Share the link and your friends can vote for you!
* Collaborate: What will another poet do with your opening line? Write it, hand it over, and find out. Take turns writing the poem and share your collaboration.
* Learn: What makes a villanelle a villanelle? The Poetry Glossary breaks down each form with a classic poem marked up line by line, so you can see the rules at work. One tap starts your own.
* Read: Every poet starts as a reader. The Poem Library gathers classic poetry by form, by topic and by poet, from Basho to Dickinson. Bookmark anything you want to come back to.
* Custom poetry forms: None of the supported forms quite cut it? Create your own! PortaPoet will give line by line guidance for those too.
* Free: Writing, publishing, rhyming dictionary, battles, collaborations, the Poem Library, the Poetry Glossary, following other poets, and comments. All of it, at no charge. Haiku guidance is free too.

* Guidance beyond haiku
Live guidance as you write for many popular poetry forms: sonnets, limericks, couplets, ballads, quatrains and more. PortaPoet counts your syllables, shows which lines are meant to rhyme and whether they do, and marks the meter so you can see where a line drifts off its beat.
* Battles now have topics
Every battle now has a topic with two sides (Cake vs Pie, Mountains vs Sea). Pick a side, write your turn, and throw down an open challenge for anyone to take the other side, or call out a poet directly. When the battle ends, readers vote, and you can share a link so your friends can vote for you.
* Much improved notifications
The home screen now has a What's New feed that alerts you to activity that matters: when a poet you follow publishes, when someone picks up your open challenge on Pirates vs Ninjas, when it is your turn, and when a battle finishes.
* Learn a form, then write one
The Poetry Glossary is new: every form explained with its rules and its rhythm, each one shown through a classic poem marked up line by line. One tap starts a new poem in that form.
* Custom poetry forms
Create and validate your own. Want your own variation on a haiku or a limerick? PortaPoet supports that, and checks your poem against your own form as you write.
* A library to read
PortaPoet now has a library of classic poems organized by topic, form and poet. Enjoy the classics and get inspired by the great works.
* Better rhymes
The rhyming dictionary was clogged with surnames and obscure proper nouns, which buried the words you would actually use. Those are out of the results now, and everyday words come first.
