You will also find the most comprehensive guide to teach you pronunciation of Mandarin Chinese. Over 60 pages are devoted exclusively to help students of any level to achieve an authentic accent and accurate tones, including exercises, detailed descriptions, and a variety of methods to ensure the concepts are clearly conveyed. Designed by a professional teacher from the United States, this is a unique approach to learning an accent, at the heart of which is the belief that new information is best learned and recalled when it is associated with older, familiar information. Using instances in spoken English that closely resemble target sounds in Chinese (they do exist!), a series of simple steps is provided to go from one language to the other. Even the tones are made simple and clear through this approach. Be aware that this is not a comprehensive text on Mandarin. There is no grammar or vocabulary, no cultural backgrounds or dialog. Just pronunciation. This guide is suitable for any level of proficiency, and will benefit anyone looking to sound more like a native speaker.

I've been studying Chinese for 7 years (off and on), have many hardcopy books, and have many iPhone apps. However, I always have use of more native speaking. For what this app claims to be, just a listing of all the pinyin sounds, it does a great job and is very useful, even for English speakers who have been studying Chinese for quite some time. As you know (if you've studied Chinese for very long and have listened to many Chinese people talk), native Chinese speakers vary their speech a great deal depending on where they came from in China, and it's useful to hear many different native speakers when learning Chinese. This simple app is good for basic pinyin sounds. The only thing I don't like is the ads.UPDATE: If you don't buy the "pro" version (not sure what you get for that), the nag screen freezes up the application and it's unusable. I deleted this app.

After upgrade to latest release, the Audi no longer works on iPad nor iPhone… disappointing. Been using this app for years!

can’t get it to make the sound. checked iphone volume settings, mute and unmute, uninstalled and reinstalled. bluetooth settings. nothing worked for app to make sound.

Audio only works with headphones, but this is fine as it helps me while reciting along with the recording of a native speaker. It would be nice to be able to choose male or female voices though. Layout is rational and easy to use, but I would request one feature: the ability to highlight an entire column or row of sounds and listen to them recited with one or multiple tones (a, ba, ca, cha, da, etc.) Overall a high quality pinyin app which I would recommend over others.
