Revisit the most acclaimed sci-fi graphic novel of 2018 the way it was designed to be read! Originally conceived as an immersive digital comic, the print edition of Upgrade Soul (2018, Lion Forge), was named one of the best graphic novels of 2018 by Publishers Weekly, Paste, The Library Journal, Vulture, and more. Winner of the Dwayne McDuffie Award and nominated for Eisner, Harvey, Ringo, and Ignatz Awards, Upgrade Soul is an unforgettable story made even more unforgettable by the technology you hold in your hand. Written and illustrated by Ezra Claytan Daniels (BTTM FDRS), Upgrade Soul tells the story of Hank and Molly Nonnar, wealthy science buffs who decide to fund a risky, experimental therapy to rejuvenate the human body, with only one condition: that they be first in line to receive it. The uniquely immersive Upgrade Soul app complements the reading experience with: • Smooth, seamless navigation • Native multi-panel experience without awkward panning and zooming • Interactive 3D picture-box effects throughout • Dynamic score by acclaimed composer Alexis Gideon that you perform as you read • Great experience when mirrored to Apple TV • Behind the scenes extras and unlockable content coming soon Paste Magazine - #1 Graphic Novel of 2018 “Earth-shattering sci-fi. Every choice, every component of Upgrade Soul simply works.” Vulture - Top 10 Graphic Novels of 2018 “Masterfully crafted.” Publishers Weekly - Best Books of 2018 “Immersive, touching sci-fi.” Tor - Best Comics of 2018 “This is science fiction at its best.” Library Journal - Best Books of 2018 “A skillfully told, beautifully illustrated tale.” Visit the website: upgradesoul.com Get in touch on Twitter: @opertoon Or via email: info@opertoon.com

If we didn't have established juggernauts...

...then this company might be able to better expand what is undoubtedly an excellent and modern platform for presenting digital graphic novels. I have not seen any other engines quite as novel as this one.I wrote the creator to commend him about his extraordinary story and platform, and also to find out if there was any way it could be used by non-programmers; alas, he told me that some knowledge in Infinity was necessary, and to have a programmer create something similar was going to be quite costly. This is a bummer because if this engine were more user friendly, I think he would have a gold mine as an alternative company to types like Comixology and their ilk, who just churn out material similar to what you find in a comic book store, rather than material designed for a 21st century tablet. Sigh.Upgrade Soul is what a 21st century comic book should look and feel-like. Excellent work.

We’ve finally finished and relaunched the Upgrade Soul app! If you purchased ANY chapters in the old app, you can download the entire story now for FREE. Thank you for giving the app a chance, and for your patience. This is a 100% independently funded project, and it was a true labor of love finishing it, so if you like the way it turned out, please spread the word!

I waited 7 years for this

And it was totally worth it. To be honest, I thought that the creators threw this project in the trash. This was also one of the first times I had spent actual money in the app store. After waiting for over a year, I deleted the app from my phone and periodically checked the app store for updates until I forgot about it. Imagine my surprise when i found out that not only was it updated last year, but that it also was DONE. And now that I just read it, it was GOOD. The story was incredible and the storytelling was flawless. I was rapt the entire time, and I loved how the science concepts were able to hold water (and this is coming from a bio major). Next time don't keep me hanging seven years though, ok?

The best app-comic I've read

Many apps attempt to bring comics up to date for the smartphone/tablet generation, and few succeed. Usually they add flashy animation where the story doesn't need it. Upgrade Soul is a very good comic at its core, and the interactive parts of it work quite well at enriching the story: the panel move cinematically, the music follows your pace, the 3D effects make the world a bit more real. Excited to keep reading the story as it develops!

The amount of work that went into this is astounding, I applaud their intention to tell a story so deep and interesting that has to do with science. I am grateful to buy this app because is worth my time. Thank you and I hope this app will get updated continually.
