Now louder with Boost (up to +18 dB on headphones), a new Speech mode for conversation, better Bluetooth sound, and recording that saves properly.
Ear Assist turns your iPhone or iPad and a pair of headphones into a sound amplifier. It picks up sound through the microphone and plays it louder in your ears, so you can follow the lecture from the back row, keep the TV at a volume that suits you, or catch the conversation at a busy table.
LOUDER WHEN YOU NEED IT
• Volume control plus Boost: add +6, +12 or +18 dB with headphones
• Boost is switched off on the loudspeaker, where it would cause a feedback howl, and limited on the earpiece
• The Boost button always shows the gain that is actually applied
TWO WAYS TO LISTEN
• Natural: the sound as the microphone picks it up. Best for music, birdsong and the atmosphere of a room
• Speech: uses Apple's voice processing to reduce background noise and echo. Best for conversation, meetings, lectures and TV
SHAPE THE SOUND
• Five-band equaliser from 60 Hz to 14 kHz
• Lift the upper bands to bring voices forward, or cut low rumble
• Save settings for different places and load them again later
YOUR HEADPHONES, YOUR MICROPHONE
• Works with wired headphones, AirPods and other Bluetooth headphones
• With Bluetooth headphones, Ear Assist uses your iPhone's microphone and keeps full stereo sound, unless you choose the headset microphone
• On iOS 26, choose your microphone from the system input menu. Your choice is remembered
RECORD LECTURES AND TALKS
• Record what you are listening to, saved on your device as M4A files
• Recording starts only when you tap Record, and stops when you tap Stop
• Please ask permission before recording other people
ABOUT DELAY
Listening live through headphones always involves a short delay between the microphone and your ears. It is shortest with wired headphones. Bluetooth headphones add more, and if you can also hear the sound directly you may notice a slight echo. Where delay matters, use wired headphones.
GOOD FOR
• Lectures, talks and the back of a hall
• Meetings and busy restaurants
• TV at your own volume without disturbing others
• Theatre, places of worship and events from far seats
• Birdwatching and nature recording
PRIVACY
Audio is processed on your device. Ear Assist does not upload what it picks up or what you record. The free version shows ads, and the app uses analytics and crash reporting; the App Privacy section on this page lists what those services collect.
PURCHASES
Ear Assist is free with ads. Optional in-app purchases unlock recording and remove ads.
IMPORTANT
Ear Assist is an entertainment and convenience utility for listening through headphones. It is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any condition, and it is no substitute for professional advice or care. If you have any concerns about your ears, speak to a healthcare provider.
Headphones recommended; Boost requires them. Microphone access required. Requires iOS 14 or later.
This is the first time I've ever written a review. Since the developers asked but I only am because I've just used this all for literally a minute or 2; and it does what it says. I expected it to be more complicated; and maybe be kinda fake or a gimmick. But it is quite clear already that it does what it says. I do have many suggestions/questions though. For example, down a short hallway into a bedroom with 2 people talking occasionally. Also having a tv on, makes it quite hard to hear people speaking; as you'd imagine. There are these equalizers on the app which I'm going to play with more, but maybe instead of frequencies; or in addition to, you could maybe label them with what their Benefit may be. Example being if you are wanting to hear 2 people talking and there is another noise; maybe there is a way to set the equalizers to better hear the people. I understand it's frequencies; and it goes from high to low. But with there being so many options and an infinite different number of possible settings......... I just find myself wishing that I better understood the entire concept etc. I'm sure many others would have this issue(I promise I'm not as stupid as I'm appearing!)and if there is anything you can do to help me figure out how to set it to best meet my needs at any given time I'd appreciate it. Bottom line is that.... THIS APP WORKS! It's free! Although I guess there's ads, I don't recall where they were, and as far as I know they don't effect using this app. So..... a big and genuine THANK YOU, to whomever made this. It's funny, I don't see anything even claiming to do the same thing! Very strange! Anyway, great job, and you should definitely look into anything you can do to make it even better! I'd suggest having it compatible with a microphone that could be purchased separately..... or even creating one specifically for these purposes! Imagine if apple had accessories like that and an app like this! They'd of course make billions on it. All under the assumption that it would be even better! Anyway, just something to think about! Thanks again!
It’s free and

I suggest that you add to your app a Bluetooth Finder, so people can use that to find the little earbuds that they drop and forget about. Also Wi-Fi locator Wi-Fi finder. And people on the Wi-Fi I’m connected to Wi-Fi receivers in the area. Also, are you capable? In general of even being able to create such a thing that find signals being sent continuously from one location and being able to identify as a characteristic of a camera ? I damaged my ears from extremely loud car stereo systems so I have tendinitis isn’t just minor so I’m trying to go with a good quality trustworthy app you can do better man go above and beyond. Well if your team is capable and smart enough and able to brainstorm into creation, the things that I suggested you cover every area. Keep your app with availability of purchase, but don’t sacrifice the quality of the free. Just add one simple little thing extra people will buy your app. Go to right away because I think it’s purchasing the app is better than the free app they already it’s a pre-programmed thought that we have as humans in the digital world. Thank you for your time. You can do better I Encourage you to be the best to you. Thank you for reading. I hope it wasn’t boring. Which idea that I listed for your team in app is impossible thank you I’m Nick.
U can hear ultrasonic sound waves that humans can’t hear at all bye the human ear

It’s like a special ear that can detect a ultrasonic bug repeller sound waves that bugs don’t Like to hear at all and they run away so it’s very effective at what it does detecting those sounds so it’s very good so yea really like this app and I recommend this app to anybody like me that would like to listen to invisible ultrasound sound waves and would like to hear them warning it’s super doper loud u will need to only test it for a few seconds and then turn it off it’s super freaking loud :)
Exceeded my expectations
brandon.mg
Not bad for a free app. Works beyond expectations and can hear at very long ranges. Yes there are banner ads but that isn't stopping the app from picking up my heart beat (through my thumb) I might add. Very sensitive but with the proper headphones (not ear buds) there will be no feedback (ringing) that others complain about. I recommend noise canceling headphones for a maximum feedback deterrent and be sure to allow access to microphone through the device for that silence issue some run against. Good luck my friends and play nice.
This update fixes several things that were not working, and adds more control over how you listen.
FIXED
• Recording works again. Recordings were not being saved in versions released since mid-2025. They now save correctly, as M4A files.
• The volume slider now changes the volume. Before, it moved the level meter but not the sound.
• The equaliser keeps working after you stop and start listening, the 14 kHz band now has its own slider, and loading a saved configuration now changes the sound.
• Bluetooth headphones no longer drop to phone-call sound quality when the app starts.
NEW
• Boost: add +6, +12 or +18 dB when listening through headphones. It is switched off on the loudspeaker, where it would cause feedback, and limited on the earpiece.
• Speech mode: uses Apple's voice processing to reduce background noise and echo. Natural mode stays the default, for music, birdsong and ambience.
• On iOS 26, choose your microphone from the system input menu.
REMOVED
• The AEC, AGC, NS and VR buttons. They did not change the sound. Speech mode now does what they described.
A NOTE ON DELAY
Live listening through headphones always has a short delay. It is shortest with wired headphones; Bluetooth adds more.
Thank you for sticking with Ear Assist.
