Description

Dungeon time stops when you do: smite monsters cleverly, not by mashing buttons!

With over 350 different types of items to be found, you will keep finding novel solutions to battling over 150 different types of monsters that you will face on your journey! You have time to think, but this is no puzzler - you will have to fight your adrenalin and use your sword or staff as much as your inventory.

The procedurally-generated dungeon and vast array of possible items gives immense replay value. Some games you'll find a good weapon early, other times you'll rely on wands or potions, or some combination. Sometimes in sheer desperation you'll read a random unidentified scroll... will it be a scroll of fire that incinerates your clothes? Will it be a blessed scroll of teleportation for the ultimate escape?

If you have ever played NetHack, DCSS, etc, this game will show you a whole new form of the roguelike genre.

When you get good enough to survive to 300 feet, you will be asked to upgrade your character to access the full dungeon. This is a one-off purchase for each type of character (for example, the sorcerer and sorceress are a single type - Evil Mages). The whole game can be played with any character - you only need to purchase your favourite character(s). This can also be seen/purchased in advance under Options/Store.

Upgraded to a new device or iOS version? Just use the "Recover" button in Options/Store to get your character classes back.

The Roguelike I keep coming back to

I should mention I got into the original Rogue on a friend's 8088 DOS box back in the 80s.

Waz blends classic Rogue with modern visuals (the animations aren't the BEST, but they're more than good enough to keep you entertained and engaged), dark humor, and loads of originality. This game offers a blend of variety and randomness that makes for endless replayability—it's also really difficult! Just like the classics it pays homage to, don't expect to get far without practice, strategy, and a good dose of luck. I'm convinced the negative reviews were written by folks who didn't give the game a fair chance or simply don't enjoy (or aren't good at) the genre. Those who do will inevitably find themselves going back for "just ONE more try"... over and over again.

Game got harder with updates

This game is a lot of fun but I forgot that I was going to skip getting the updates because of some of what I read about the changes. I don't really enjoy a dungeon crawling experience where the main goal is to find food so that you don't starve and that food rots really quickly in the newest version. In The previous versions apples and pears and bread stayed of good eating quality for the whole time. It really ruins the game. I won the old version twice and the new version never. Wish prices are too high to make use of. I'm playing as a barbarian which is supposed to be the easiest character class.
In summary: lots of fun, too hard. Give us a break, Waz! Thanks
P.S. used to be five stars.

Fantastic game.

Update: Apparently I was quite a bit wrong about this game being in early days. The lone update did not add much other than bugs. Among other things, reflection, a pretty critical gameplay mechanic, is broken. I love how hard this game is, but even minor bugs are amplified by that amount of difficulty into an tantalizingly close to playable mess. I would caution against anyone paying for this game until a subsequent update.

Old Review: Incredibly well done adaptation/reinterpretation of Nethack. After ascending each type of character, however, I don't find it to have the same replay value of its ancestor. Truth be told, it was getting a little monotonous even before that, but I think/hope this game is in early days, and after spending every dollar I could on it ($8), I believe it to have been a hell of a steal. I'd have easily paid double and still found it a bargain for the enjoyment I received. Well done Waz!
