sketchometry
Education
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Fascinatingly simple. Simply fascinating. sketchometry is a different kind of dynamic math software.
You draw with your finger on your iPhone or iPad.
sketchometry automatically converts these (finger) sketches into exact geometric objects.
Mathematics becomes an experimental subject. No ready-made results are presented, learners are encouraged to go on a journey of discovery by themselves.

We are proud to announce the new version 26.1 of sketchometry. This version comes with a wide range of new features and improvements. Enjoy exploring!
Help
Not sure what sketchometry can do? We now provide a help page that summarizes all features of sketchometry. You can access it directly within the software under "Help", or online at https://help.sketchometry.org. The help is available in German and English and includes short videos showing how to create and edit objects in sketchometry.
Layout and Features
The toolbar is now more streamlined. Some tools that were previously hidden in subpages are now directly accessible. For example, calculated measurements now take one click less, so you can work faster.
Screenshots can now include LaTeX and icons. This is especially useful for measurements and text.
The gesture overview is now available in almost all sketchometry languages. This makes it much easier to get started and to rediscover features. Soon, you can also find it on our website at https://sketchometry.org.
The properties of the template are now better organized and offer more options. For example, you can now define whether calculated measurements should display the term by default.
The editor now responds more intelligently to input. Wherever you can enter numbers, terms, or text (in properties, tool options, etc.), the editor opens automatically. This makes it easier to enter special characters like α or γ.
Further Changes and Improvements
- The editor has been improved to take up less space on tablets and smartphones. Its position can now also be configured in the settings.
- Screenshot scaling can now be adjusted.
- Structural changes in the code, updated build tools, and many smaller improvements that are not directly visible in everyday use ensure better stability and maintainability.
- Language packages have been updated.

Version 26.0 brings fresh energy to sketchometry. More functionality, more languages, and greater stability.
Template in the gallery can now be fully customized. The properties defined here are applied to each newly created board.
In the board, default properties for objects are now managed through a dedicated popup. These properties all objects in a board.
Several new default properties have been added to enhance flexibility.
The editor for functions and text has been redesigned for a more compact layout on tablets and smartphones.
It can now also be positioned at the top of the screen.
Additional Features and Improvements
- New language: French
- Menu, toolbar, and popups
- Toolbar redesigned with a cleaner structure and separator lines
- Closing popups via the "X" is now consistently visible
- Angle (fixed size) is now supported clockwise and counterclockwise
- Axes, ticks, and grid are no longer mistakenly measurable
- Bug affecting measurements with sliders has been fixed
Numerous smaller improvements and optimizations further enhance performance and make sketchometry smoother and more responsive.
26.0 Feb 17
This version fixes a bug from v2.5.2 that prevented the "topmost" object from always being measured.
2.5.4 Jan 14
This version fixes two minor bugs:
1. Moving and rotating objects with two fingers was not saved.
2. Constructions from version v2.x were not imported correctly since v2.5.1.
In addition, single constructions in the gallery can now be exported directly via a button without having to make a selection first.
The language setting now shows how much of a language has already been translated.
If you would like to help translate sketchometry into other languages, please contact us at sketchometry@uni-bayreuth.de.
We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a successful start to 2026.
We look forward to continuing to explore mathematics with you at your fingertips!
2.5.3 12/20/2025
In this patch version we have improved measuring: now, the "topmost" object is always measured.
If you want to measure a different object at a location with multiple objects, you can hold for 3 seconds to see a selection of all possible measurements.
In addition, the gesture overview under "Help" has been updated.
2.5.2 12/17/2025
This version fixes an issue with importing files on iOS: On iOS and iPadOS, `.sketcho` files can now be opened directly from other apps.
This also allows sharing of designs via AirDrop.
Additionally, the appearance of calculated measurements has been improved. Instead of `(3 x 4) cm = 12 cm²`, it now shows `3 cm x 4 cm = 12 cm²`.
For a right angle, the point is now also adjusted when the angle itself receives new properties.
There are also a lot of internal improvements. In particular, deleting and undoing/redoing deletions has been optimized.
2.5.1 12/11/2025
For version 2.5 we took a bit more time. sketchometry is now noticeably faster, clearer and better.
The new release also adds an info popup so you always know what’s new.
There are a few updates for text and measurements:
- They can now be fixed to the screen and stay in view.
This is especially useful for measurements you want to keep an eye on.
- Press and hold to copy texts quickly and easily.
Other changes
- Improved handling of slope triangles
- Better detection of the "Circle (radius)" gesture
- Fixed issues when deleting special objects
- Points can be displayed even smaller
- Many other small improvements and bug fixes
We are currently working on help content that will be directly available in sketchometry. There you will find everything about what sketchometry can do for you. The help section will be available in one of the upcoming versions.
2.5 11/06/2025
sketchometry 2.4 introduces a new setting:
From now on, you can specify whether “Draw” and “Construct” can be used in combination or only exclusively.
This simplifies usage in the lower grades.
We have also made a few changes to the user interface:
- Multitools in the toolbar now also have icons.
- The display of pop-ups on iOS devices has been improved.
- Under “Properties” you will no longer find the confusing “Appearance” entry.
Of course, there are also a number of bug fixes and improvements.
Many thanks to all tipsters and advisors!
2.4 03/04/2025
This version fixes a small bug when migrating from version 1.
2.3.6 02/21/2025
The new version of sketchometry contains many bug fixes and improvements. Among others:
- The language can now be set to `auto` so that a language that matches the system is always used.
- The display of menu bar and toolbar at different positions has been improved. Some things had overlapped here.
- An error in some old constructions could cause the migration process to be interrupted and the app could no longer be opened. This has now been fixed.
- The gesture for parallel and bisector now also works in an empty drawing area with axes switched on.
2.3.5 02/19/2025
For technical reasons, when updating the iOS app to the last version (2.3.3), constructions of already installed, older sketchometry versions (up to 1.5.3) were not transferred. This bug has now been fixed.
In addition, this version brings the following features:
- Improved gesture recognition
- New gestures (e.g. center line, parallelogram)
- New objects (e.g. segment of fixed length, angle of fixed size)
- Gallery with new folder structure
- Customizable user interface
- Extended measuring with dimension recognition
- Calculations per click
- New export formats
2.3.4 02/10/2025
- Improved gesture recognition
- New gestures (e.g. center line, parallelogram)
- New objects (e.g. segment of fixed length, angle of fixed size)
- Gallery with new folder structure
- Customizable user interface
- Extended measuring with dimension recognition
- Calculations per click
- New export formats
2.3.2 02/02/2025
Enable she share menu to store constructions (use "Sav to file"). This allows to use all cloud services which are installed on the device. Fix a crash during startup on certain devices.
1.5.2 03/06/2020
Bug fix cloud storages
1.5.1 03/02/2020
Support iOS 13 devices. Massive speed improvements.
1.5.0 11/08/2019
sketchometry v1.4.4 fixes two minor problems: Dragging of labels does work again and hiding of polygons missed a point. Furhter, the reflection of arcs, sectors and angles is not supported in this version.
1.4.4 02/20/2019
sketchometry v1.4.3 introduces the copying of polygons, fixes a performance regression in curve plotting and corrects several minor bugs.
1.4.3 02/13/2019
sketchometry v1.4.1 fixes a performance regression introduced in 1.4.0: graph plotting should be very fast again.
This release contains a subtle but important change: manipulating a line or polygon with two fingers on a touch device does not longer scale the object. From now on it is only rotated and translated. This opens up many didactical opportunities.
1.4.1 02/08/2019
sketchometry 1.4.0 supports now Greek as new language. A new feature is that one can create mirror images of lines, circles, curves and polygons directly with the "mirror gesture".
Another visible change is we adapted the measuring notation to the German curriculum, e.g. the length of the segment defined by the points A and B is now displayed as |AB|.
Starting with this version, the amount of constructions that can be stored in sketchometry is limited only by the disk size of the device.
As usual, many bugs have been fixed.
1.4.0 02/05/2019
Version 1.3.5 is essential a bug fix: short, straight scribble curves got the wrong position.
1.3.5 02/28/2018
In this release 1.3.4, smooth scribble curves are introduced. This is the first step for doing calculus with sketchometry. Then, polygons can be reflected on a line or point (as well as points, lines and curves). Glider points can be set into "snap-to-grid" mode. Finally, some annoying bugs could be fixed.
1.3.4 02/21/2018
Bug fixes
1.3.3 12/08/2017
Version 1.3.2 improves the handling on small touch devices and fixes an event handling bug introduced in 1.3.0.
1.3.2 12/05/2017
Version 1.3.0 introduces the **scribble mode**, which allows you to draw in a construction.
Lines and curves may now be reflected directly across a line of reflection or a
point of symmetry.
Moreover, constructing on multi-touch devices has been made more robust against
unintended touches.
1.3.0 12/05/2017
Bug fix: sketchometry crashed if a glider was put on a sector.
1.2.9 10/31/2017
We are proud to announce the new version 26.1 of sketchometry. This version comes with a wide range of new features and improvements. Enjoy exploring!
