I usually never read or give reviews for apps that I like, but I have been a user as well as a customer of Robin Hood and the Robin Hood credit card, and Robin Hood brokerage for quite some time now when the Robin Hood credit card came out I was a little bit nervous about the aspect of it based off of people‘s opinions on it, but I wanted to take the risk because I saw the benefit in having this card. The Robin Hood credit card is currently my favorite credit card to use and the customer service is fantastic. I appreciate the fast easy text message Between me the client and Robin Hood spokes people so I can get the help that I need. I also appreciate the fast points that are convertible to cash that I can then put into a high-yield savings account in my Robin Hood account. I am super excited about the upcoming features and one thing I do wish is that the logo was different than the Robin Hood app.
Vague terms to avoid paying rewards after several months of use.
UghFine how is this nickname
We recently had a contractor work on our residential house after noticing leaking pipes - this transaction got flagged by Robinhood as not being a personal transaction and without warning Robinhood said they were going to stop paying for 3% rewards and any transactions they felt weren’t for personal use would be rewarded at 1%. We’ve been spending a lot of money on health insurance this year, and since that decision Robinhood made, we no longer get 3% back on our health insurance that was previously paid out. That’s incredibly a very personal transaction to our household especially with an infant and this writer being in postpartum recovery. We will now be moving to a different rewards card that values their customers and their terms/agreements because what it seems like to me is that Robinhood doesn’t want to reward loyal members who pay off their card every month, who make big purchases, and who continue to make big purchases without paying interest. If we consistently knew what was 3% versus 1% this wouldn’t be an issue, but it seems like it’s a being the scenes decision by Robinhood and their vague language keeps it that way. Disappointing but not surprising given Robinhood’s reputation.
Lacking Fundamental Features
PhotoEdgic
The apps interface is clean and aesthetically pleasing, and the features it does have are nice such as the ability to organize and view all your accounts (or whatever will connect with Plaid) in one space while allowing the ability to hide accounts. What’s less impressive is that you cannot automate transfers to Robinhood investment accounts or create weekly IRA contributions and there is no “split pay” feature. The banking side was advertised and spun as a way to combine your accounts and split your pay across different “buckets” such as checking, savings, investing, and retirement but this was not cleanly integrated when accessing the app. The ability to automatically set aside a little to savings seems relatively commonplace in neo-banking apps and for an app-only banking platform with a paywall requirement to access, you’d think it would include basic features like that, but the biggest drawback is losing access to weekly recurring deposits and IRA contributions in lieu of weekly manual transfers in the accounts. Until these sort of basic features are added, the app will remain lowly rated for me as I switched to this platform for these features.
Developer Response
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. We appreciate your compliments on the app's aesthetics. However, we hear your concerns about missing automated features like split pay and recurring IRA contributions. We're constantly evolving the platform, and feedback like yours helps us prioritize what fundamental tools to build next. We will be sure to pass these specific requests along to our development team for future consideration. Thank you for helping us make using Robinhood easier!
Beware - can’t handle transactions
dlmanuel
This has happened to me twice already. And you can’t get a customer service agent to save your life. Their transactions (payments and charges) get all screwed up and delayed and then they try to charge you a returned payment fee. What happened is, I made a payment (at least I thought I did) but it didn’t show as pending and nothing went through after like a week. And so I made a payment again and this time it went through and showed immediately, and so I figured I just hadn’t made the original payment that I thought I did. ONE WEEK AFTER that, they try to withdraw the original payment that you did actually make. And so I keep my accounts separate and allocated for certain things so then it bounced back and they charged me a fee. This happened twice so far that they try to withdraw the initial payment so late that I didn’t think I actually paid and I end up paying again. And then they will put a hold on your card because of said payment so your available credit is a lot less than it should be. This is the most amateur thing I’ve ever seen. Oh and there’s no customer service whatsoever. Only texting no phone calls.
Bug fixes and performance improvements.
