I used CMB (no paid subscription) several years ago and thought it was great, had some solid matches and several nice dates. So now that I’m back on the market, I came back thinking the experience would be similar. But now? Almost everything is paywalled (and WAY overpriced, even for relatively basic features), suggested matches aren’t at all my type, you can’t see most people who liked you without paying, and I’m convinced that many women on here are no longer active users (as a free user, you can’t see if someone been online recently). Feels like applying to jobs in the current market…just throwing a paper airplane into the void with a very slim chance of receiving a response. Not sure how CMB is still rated as high as it is because these reviews suggest that a lot of people have had similar experiences (survey bias notwithstanding).I highly recommend checking out Hinge instead. They’ve really got the free-to-use model figured out, and their algorithm appears to be making suggestions based on the information in my profile and who I like…what a crazy idea, pairing people based on common interests! Notably, Hinge *requires* you to completely fill out your profile before you can start sending/receiving likes—CMB does not, hence the glut of profiles that are extremely light on any sort of meaningful details. This forces people to make judgment calls based solely on someone’s appearance, which I’d say runs totally counter to the ethos of being an app for people who want to date with intention.

I purchased the premium and with their so-called “high-quality matches only,” and am getting about 2 people shown per day. This is incredibly disappointing and misleading as one of the benefits of premium was “unlimited suggested.” I have widened my filters significantly and still get the same result. Also, what’s really annoying is that adjusting your filters only applies to the NEXT batch of potential matches, meaning that a whole day is wasted from my paid subscription if I don’t end up selecting the right filter. Not that there has been a filter that’s worked for me. The constant bombardment to upgrade to the highest subscription tier and to buy flowers is unwarranted and done in bad taste - I’m already a paying customer, why are you already asking me to pay even more? I get that these apps profit on upselling their customers, but I have virtually zero incentive to do so after such a negative experience.To top it all off, the customer service is non-existent. I sent in a customer service request over 2 weeks ago and still haven’t heard a response. I’m amazed this dating app is still afloat. Not only is the unlimited suggested not unlimited, the potential matches shown to me are no better than what I see if I didn’t pay premium. In fact, I’d argue that the matches I saw as a free customer were arguably better and certainly higher in volume. I will definitely not be purchasing this paid subscription again and would strongly recommend anyone to not waste their money on CMB.

I usually don’t write app reviews but this app wants you to pay for its surface-level services. I feel like the reviews are bots because with so many people having the same issues how is the review rating still so high? Clearly there are issues with the app itself upon reading reviews and my own experience that cause issues even making it past creating your account. Someone has to first approve your profile. Oh look you’re approved now you can get matched, but wait! If anyone matched with you and you don’t match with them back that person can report you and your account will be frozen immediately. It’s not like Instagram or Facebook where you’re frozen AFTER the report is reviewed. My profile was approved upon set up but now needs additional verification? Okay. Oh, but wait: someone else also reported me less than 24 hours after the first report. I haven’t said anything to anyone on the app yet, haven’t uploaded half naked photos, no profanity anywhere on my profile or sent to other users. My profile was approved twice and the 3rd time I was banned. Again it puts entirely too much power in the hands of random people. I told them to remove my information from their system since they will not allow me to use their services after sending my ID and photo verification and they stated that they will not do so. I’m so glad I did not pay for this app. I should have listened to all the Reddit reviews telling me about this company’s data mining approach. I should have listened to the reviews, but I gave it a chance and now regret it.
