FlowTunes saved my marriage!

Just kidding. I’m not married. But seriously, I have had this app for a few months and it has been really good. My favorite part is the ambient sounds feature. There are a good amount, and the cool thing is now there are a few sounds, like birdsong for example, that have multiple types. Ya get ta pick ya birds. Also, it’s completely free, like none of that “free trial” or “premium version” mean stuff that is in all things nowadays. I hate that stuff, but FlowTunes doesn’t have it, so I love FlowTunes. If you get it and think that it’s mid, just be grateful that it is free. You never know, maybe it will save your marriage.

Two things stick out from my perspective because I had to study music growing up. First, a lot of the selections are unfortunately extremely distracting because even though the music isn’t necessarily BAD, it doesn’t make sense. Particularly anything jazzy or featuring a leading instrument that has a melody that moves around a lot. The second thing is that within one selection there’s totally different vibes that’d be distracting to suddenly switch between. In particular, I really liked a track in Heartland Harmonies that was sort of slow and sweet, but the track that followed was super fast and upbeat, like for square dancing. Another thing is that a lot of selections and tracks are way too loud to hear the other ambience noises even when they’re turned all the way up. I wanted to adjust the volume of the main track only, tapped the audio button thinking I’d get a slider for it, and was properly startled when my device audio suddenly jumped up. I think I could use this for when I’m drawing or writing, but it would be kind of irritating if I was studying or reading.

I have used countless apps for focus and this one combines all the aspects I need in one place for FREE. The music is nonintrusive, but stimulating and the timer feature helps me do my own pomodoro without needing a second app. In the few days I’ve used it, my focus has improved immensely. Previously, I couldn’t focus for more than 15 minutes without getting distracted, but knowing I’m waiting on a ding and the music to end to get a break is a perfect accountability tool.

You can now add Isochronic Tones to your background soundscape. Isochronic Tones are single tones that pulse on and off at specific frequencies. There is some evidence that suggests they can support focus, relaxation, and sleep by entraining brainwave activity.
