I have been a “numbers” guy all my life. I just recently started this app to cognitively strengthen and enjoy number challenges. I like this app as it doesn’t make you sit through “advertisements”… give it a chance!!

May be wonderful, but couldn’t get past two distractions!

Impressed that this developer focuses on pure Sudoku, without ads. His privacy policy is also superb — no data collected. That should be federal law. However, before I could even get started, I encountered two major obstacles! They may not matter to you, so give the app a chance. What were the issues? 1️⃣ An on-screen timer with, apparently, no option to turn it off. That’d a distraction, pure and simple. I play for the intellectual challenge, not as a race. Others must, too. 2️⃣ Several squares that were colored, with no borders. Why? Again, apparently, no option to turn off the coloring and simply see a board. That was also distracting. No doubt, there's a reason for this, but give users the option to skip it! OK, so I figured out it's a focus device. But most of us don't need that! We know how Sudoku works. RECOMMENDATION 3️⃣ A suggestion. My favorite Sudoku game — :) Sudoku (Enjoy Sudoku) is no longer available — but got the design 💯% correct. Two numeric keypads, one to enter the number and the other to pencil in a possibility, was a brilliant design. 4️⃣ In any event, please do not let my review, and my idiosyncrasies, deter you from trying this app. Any developer willing to give to the community, eschew ads, and NOT collect data needs to be given a chance. 5️⃣ Tried it again, but couldn’t figure out how to pencil in possibilities. Then, all of a sudden, the app booted me out of the game, saying I had run out of chances. Whoa, was that off-putting! 6️⃣ Finally, apologies as this review ended up with sentences run together. The App Store review system is broken and dysfunctional. On my iPad and iPhones, I always put in paragraph breaks in my reviews, and they show up on my device, but the App Store consistently removes them and mashes everything together into one MASSIVE paragraph. That’s ridiculous! It's hard to write a coherent, legible review and hard on the readers to process reviews that a mass (mess) of text — and glean the points. This has been going on for years, Fix it, Apple!

This has very quickly turned into my go-to game app. Overall, the developers have done a beautiful job. This app is intuitive, the sudoku puzzles are enjoyable and it's fun to look at the stats and see gradual improvements over time. My only qualm is that I wish that correct answers would lock into place. There have been a fair number of times where I accidentally clicked a correctly filled cell and selected a number intended for the cell above or below causing a mistake to be registered. Using a smaller screened device, this happens enough to cause notable inconvenience. That said, this still knocks every other sudoku app out of the water for me. It has very quickly turned into one of my most used apps. Huge thank you to the developers!

This has very quickly turned into my go-to game app. Overall, the developers have done a beautiful job. Undo button is useless

This is a mobile game. It’s very easy to just accidentally tap the wrong thing. That should be something you can undo with the undo button. But the undo button doesn’t affect notes. Accidentally put a note where you’d put a number you’d figured out? Undo button doesn’t work. Accidentally put a number where you meant to put a note? There go all your notes. If you’d already done any advanced solving techniques, you’re screwed. Might as well give up on the puzzle because you accidentally tapped the wrong thing just once. I’m uninstalling. Maybe I’ll find another app that doesn’t track me, doesn’t require a subscription fee just to play, and actually has a functional undo button.

Undo button is useless

This is a mobile game. It’s very easy to just accidentally tap the wrong thing. That should be something you can undo with the undo button. But the undo button doesn’t affect notes. The Big Screen Update is here. Sudoku now runs beautifully on iPad and Apple Silicon Macs, with layouts rebuilt from the ground up for larger screens. This is not a stretched phone app. On iPad you get proper layouts in both orientations, full Split View, Slide Over and Stage Manager support, and your puzzle, notes and timer stay intact when you resize the window mid game. On Mac the app runs natively with full hardware keyboard support for number entry, arrow keys, notes, undo and pause. We also reworked the Smart Hint engine so it teaches instead of just solving. A hint explains which of 26 human techniques applies and why, highlighting the cells step by step before it places a number. The Technique Library walks you through every technique with a worked example you can try yourself, and a new Sudoku Terms glossary explains every word a hint or lesson uses in plain language, with a quick example. Also new in this release: Auto-Complete. When only a few cells are left and the rest is forced, let the app fill them in for you. You choose whether it asks first or completes the grid instantly. Create your own theme. Choose the colors for the board, your numbers, the grid lines and the accent, and the whole app follows along. A cleaner, calmer, more modern look on every screen. Accessibility improvements, including an adjustable board font size and a quieter, focus friendly interface. More languages, so more players can learn Sudoku in their own. Please keep it coming. 4.0.1, from your feedback: When "Show mistakes instantly" is turned off and your board is full but the puzzle isn't solved yet, the game now tells you and can point out the cells that still need fixing. The color highlight for notes matching your selected number wasn't appearing in some themes.
