Tactics training with Elo rating. Puzzle Fights against real opponents. 14M+ games in the reference database. Your rating, not your gut feeling.
ChessBase Mobile is the training, playing, and analysis platform for chess players who track their progress by the numbers.
ChessBase Mobile is built by ChessBase, the company behind the standard desktop software used by world champions and club players alike for over 30 years.
Solve tactics puzzles rated by difficulty and watch your Elo rise or fall with every attempt. No participation trophies, your rating reflects exactly where you stand. The tactics database draws from positions in real games, not synthetic exercises, so the patterns you train are the patterns you encounter at the board.
Puzzle Fight puts you head-to-head against another player in a timed series of 24 tactical positions. Both players solve the same puzzles simultaneously. The one who solves more, faster, wins - and gains Elo. Structured competition, not a casual minigame.
Play live games in Blitz and Rapid formats against opponents worldwide. Premove support, clean interface, no clutter.
The ChessBase Online Database contains over 14 million games. Search by player, position, or opening. Review grandmaster games, study endgame structures, track opening trends - the same database used by professionals, accessible from your phone.
Cloud analysis with several engines, including Fritz and Lc0. Basic cloud analysis with Fritz is free. For deeper analysis, scalable cloud servers are available, from Large to Gargantuan, paid per minute in ducats. Lc0 brings neural network evaluation for positions where classical engines struggle. The engine panel shows evaluation, depth, and principal variation.
Build and maintain your opening repertoire in the cloud. 300 opening overviews with repertoire suggestions help you get started with new systems. A live opening book provides up-to-date statistics for every position. Three practice modes let you drill your variations until they stick.
Annotate your games with comments, symbols, variations, arrows, and markings. Save games and analyses in cloud databases that synchronise across all your devices. Share positions and games via link, image, GIF, FEN, QR code, or PGN. Upload and download PGN files for full compatibility with desktop software.
AI Kibitzer provides live commentary during games and puzzles — with personality. Chess-legend anecdotes, opinions, the occasional bad joke. Like a friend with too much chess trivia sitting next to you. Audio output included.
Available in 27 languages. Customisable board colours, piece sets, and notation display.
Light and dark mode across all screens, or set to follow your device preference. No ads. No energy systems. No artificial gating. Open the app, train, close the app.
Free to use, all functions are available at no cost. ChessBase Premium unlocks expanded cloud storage and unlimited database search results.
Free: search the online database (max 50 games displayed), up to 10 cloud databases (10 MB total), cloud clipping for up to 10 games.
Premium: unlimited database search, up to 200 cloud databases (500 MB total), cloud clipping for up to 400 games.

Looks like another fumble from ChessBase. Can you custom the app? No. You’re limited to a small selection of board colors and there’s no way to get rid of the distracting move arrow once a move is played. It stays there. On an iPad, there’s only a horizontal orientation offered, no vertical. Can’t make the board bigger, it’s pretty small on screen. The worst thing of all is that, although I have cloud ChessBase databases posted, and in fact, CB mobile shows there’s games in my databases, opening the database shows NO GAMES!?!? What’s up with that? And PGN databases I do have on my iPad won’t upload. For now, for iOS, you’re far better off with Chess Studio.
Replay Training and Turning off Engine features missing

Great step in the right direction. Chessbase is the best offline professional training tool and am happy there’s an app to support it and I can imagine it’s only going to get better. It’s great to be able to access my games and the database without having to log into my computer. One of the great features the program has that I think would translate really well to the mobile app is replay training (aka solitaire chess). Chessbase’s version of this type of training is simply the best I have seen as you can get a score and compare against the engine which helps gamify what can otherwise be a difficult task as you’re trying to replicate the moves of a great player. While this exists in the app as Guess Variation, it doesn’t have the scoring and the engine comparison that exists in the program. Would love to see this feature! Also, I can’t turn off the engine. Shows up as Let’s Check automatically and I often don’t want to see the engine when reviewing games!

Thank you for the detailed feedback and the great suggestions. We’re glad you enjoy access to your games and databases on mobile. Replay Training with scoring/engine comparison is a very interesting idea for future updates. We also understand the request for better engine control while reviewing games.
Slick, Streamlined, Simply Brilliant

As a long-time ChessBase fan (nearly two decades with a premium subscription), I’m genuinely impressed by how refined this new mobile app feels. It’s slick, fast, and beautifully streamlined - everything you’d want from a modern ChessBase experience. It took a moment to get my bearings, but once I did, I realized just how thoughtfully designed it is. The interface gets out of the way and lets you enjoy what ChessBase does best: delivering world-class games and databases in an elegant, high-quality format. This is ChessBase at its best - focused, professional, and an absolute joy to use on the go.
Developer Response

Original Customer Before the Subscription Update
dharrell
I purchased this app when it was first developed. Now I am expected to pay a subscription for features I had in the old app. You decided to throw your original supporters under the bus. The right thing to do was grandfather customers who brought the app in the first year of development with a free subscription.Simply put; THIS IS GREED.
Developer Response
Thank you for your honest feedback. We understand that subscription changes can be frustrating, especially for users who have supported ChessBase for a long time. Our goal is to keep ChessBase Mobile sustainable while continuing to improve the app. Please contact our support team so we can review your specific case.
