Foxtale is a private mental health journal and mood tracker with a self-care pet: a fox companion who grows as you do. Name what you feel, spot the patterns in your mental health, and turn checking in on yourself into a journaling habit you look forward to.
"I’ve never been able to journal, but this little fox helps me process my thoughts and emotions." - App Store Review, 2026
A mental health journal you will actually keep up.
Most mental health journal and mood tracker apps get abandoned within a week. Foxtale is built to be picked up: short guided journal prompts, a cozy world that changes with each entry, and a self-care pet who is glad to see you. People tell us the journaling feels less like a task and more like a hobby, and that a few minutes each morning or evening has quietly become part of their self-care routine.
Understand your emotions, not just log your mood.
Each journal entry starts by naming the emotion, not just "good" or "bad" but the specific feeling underneath. That one step is what helps you process an emotion and move through it rather than sit in it, which is why Foxtale works as mental health support and not only as a mood tracker. Over time your mood tracker shows what lifts you, what drains you, and how your emotions shift across the week, so the mental health insights are about your life, not a generic score.
A self-care pet, not a chore.
As you journal, your fox gathers your emotions as glowing orbs to restore a forgotten world. You can dress your fox and decorate their home, but the game stays in service of your self-care rather than the other way round. If you have tried a self-care pet app before and wanted more substance underneath the cute, Foxtale was made for you.
Mental health support for the hard stretches.
Foxtale is often downloaded in the middle of something difficult: an anxiety flare-up, grief, a breakup, burnout, a diagnosis you are still getting your head around. The prompts are written for those moments, and the mood tracker gives you a calm, private place to put what you are carrying and to see your mental health steady over time.
A journal built for minds that work differently.
Foxtale is used by people living with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, BPD, PTSD and OCD, and by ADHD, autistic and AuDHD people who find open-ended journaling hard to start. Guided prompts, emotion labels and a feelings wheel give structure when a blank page does not, and gentle reminders help the habit stick without nagging. It also helps if you struggle to identify your emotions (alexithymia), or experience mood swings and shutdowns that a standard mood tracker misses.
What's inside your mental health journal:
Mood tracker and emotion tracker with clear visual insights
Guided journal prompts and emotion labels
Gratitude and reflection prompts for daily self-care and mental health check-ins
Short emotion and mental health lessons grounded in real psychology
A self-care pet fox and an evolving story driven by your entries
Customizable journal templates and reminders
100% private: your journal and mood tracker data stay on your device
Built by the mental health tracking team behind Bearable: Foxtale comes from the team behind Bearable, the health and mood tracking app used by hundreds of thousands of people living with chronic and mental health conditions. I have used so many different similar types of apps, but this is the first one that I’m sticking with and I plan on paying for the subscription when my trial is up. First of all it’s so cute and such a pleasure to navigate. Everything is laid out nicely in the app. The journaling part of the app is so wonderful to use. I love that. It gives templates for different emotions and I love that. It doesn’t let you pick a neutral option because it actually really helps me to really know myself and do deeper work instead of just going through the motions. I also love that when you are journaling and you tap on an emotion it’ll give you a little definition. I find that seeing the emotions laid out like they are and seeing the definitions of each emotion actually helps me to notice things that I would’ve glossed over. I like that you can choose a pleasant overall feeling, but still add unpleasant emotions, I’ve done some apps before where they don’t let you do that. I really love that they add references at the end of each “journey” with a sentence that summarizes each reference and how it’s relevant to the journey. I love that it lets you have a gratitude jar and a “proud moment” jar. This app has really helped me to navigate my emotions and by being able to do that I’m able to manage them better. I absolutely adore this app and I hope it doesn’t go anywhere. I am so thankful I found it!!!
Confused but pleased

I was looking for an app to where I could journal and try and understand my emotions and Foxtale looked promising.I Struggle with high anxiety and was trying to find productive ways to channel my energy and accomplish more during the day. That’s when I decided to give Foxtale a try. It’s similar to other virtual care pet apps but this is the first one that coaches and inspires people with emotional challenges. After several days I was really enjoying it and came daily to be encouraged, learning to see challenges not as obstacles but as pathways to improvement. Not being able to Afford another premium app I declined their offer for Foxtail PLUS. But after being rewarded with 3 Foxtale PLUS days free, with no obligations I found being a PLUS user had its advantages. More clothing and furnishings available. More journeys. It was nice. Then when that ended I was given a shot at Foxtail PLUS at a really rock bottom price for being a loyal user for those 3 free days. Before I could say yes the offer disappeared and was replaced with a less optimal offer and my hope of getting Foxtale PLUS evaporated. Left confused and disappointed. It is however a great app and has real potential for those who can afford PLUS. It’s even great using the free version. I’m a little frustrated but will more than likely continue using Foxtale as hope for a less stressful tomorrow is something we all need.
Changed everything for me

I actually always hate the thought of writing reviews but with this I needed to. I’ve been using this app for a month straight now and although I’m also going to therapy I genuinely feel that sticking with this app has helped me in a way I didn’t know I needed. I choose to fill out a journal in the morning and night and although I have a decent amount of coins now I love how it’s all presented. My mental health is so much more stable and the pressure of disappointing people or the finances of going to a therapist are greatly lessoned. This was like… $30 for the year and I will be doing my best to keep up with it for a very long time. Thank you so much for creating this app and putting out ads for it. It’s changed everything for me and I love the little fox you take care of. Truly before this I was… in a very poor state but now I feel like I can handle things a lot better and even when there are bad days instead of fawning and not being authentic about how I feel, I am very honest. Thank you so much for creating this app. It’s wonderful and my days and mental wellness show so much improvement.
ADHD and Grief

I came across an ad for this app and I think it mentioned adhd which I have. (Late diagnoses club). I downloaded it a couple of weeks after my older sister passed. I went straight into the Sacred Savanna and it really helped me navigate the most intense grief I’ve ever encountered. The emotional check in and emotional vocabulary are helpful. I’ve been using it for months now and I’ve only missed a couple of days. I’ve kept up with it because I want that elephant’s wisdom but I can’t get it unless I do the work. I also really like the gratitude jar. It’s an important practice and I really struggled to find things to be grateful for in the darkest days of my grief but I have managed to have far more hearts in my jar than days I’ve participated and that is gratifying. I’ve finished the Sacred Savanna but I’m continuing to revisit its lessons each day. I do look forward to engaging with other books when I’m ready. There are some features I haven’t even gotten into yet but I expect I will eventually Idk if I’ll be able to stick with it forever but for this difficult season, it has been a very useful tool in my toolkit.
