North Shore Beefs

Find and rank every beef

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

219 shops mapped from Boston to the New Hampshire line. See what is open right now, spin the wheel when nobody can decide, and settle who actually makes the best one. A beef is not a roast beef sandwich. It is rare beef piled on a griddled bun, James River sauce, and cheese under the beef so it melts into it. The North Shore has strong opinions about who does it best. This is where those opinions get counted. North Shore Beefs maps the shops and lets the people who actually eat at them do the ranking. WHAT YOU GET 219 shops on the map, from Boston up to the New Hampshire line. Search by name, filter by what you care about, or just open the map and see what is closest to you right now. Open now, and actually correct. The app knows each shop's hours, including the ones that only serve beef on certain days. You should not have to drive to a locked door to find out. Reviews with substance. Score the beef out of 10, then log the things that decide it: how rare it came, the sauce, whether the cheese was under the beef where it belongs, the bun, the size. Add photos or video. The Wheel. When nobody in the car can make a decision, spin it and go where it lands. NSB Approved. Shops that earn the badge get the badge. It cannot be bought. Champions Hub. The App MVB race runs every month with live standings, so you can see which beefer is winning right now and where you landed. Share cards worth posting. Frame the photo yourself, drag to position it, and it exports at the size Instagram and Facebook actually use instead of getting cropped to nothing. Follow the people whose taste you trust. Save the spots you mean to get to. See what the North Shore is eating today. MAKE IT YOURS Pick a color theme and a light or dark mode that suits you. Set the text size. Turn motion down. Turn on Data Saver and videos only load when you tap them. WHO IT IS FOR People who take beef seriously, people who just moved here and keep hearing about a place on Route 1, and anybody who has ever argued about this in a parking lot. Free. No account needed to browse. Make one when you want to post, vote or follow.

The whole app got a new coat of paint, and then a second pass over everything the first one missed. Type NSB's own typeface now runs through the app instead of whatever font your phone defaults to. Scores, stats and standings are set in the mono face they were always supposed to use - until now that font was never actually included in the app, so every number outside Champions Hub quietly fell back to your system font. The app finally matches the cards you share out of it. Color themes Ten of them. Every one ships a light version and a dark version, and both are real designs rather than one palette with the lights turned off. Your choice sticks whichever mode you are in, and the cards you share follow it - what you post matches what you see. The feed Cards look like the card you share from them. The shop's name is the headline instead of an 11px pill in the corner, the photo gets the same grade as the exported version, and the score is struck onto the picture rather than placed on top of it. Double-tap a photo to like it. Single tap still opens the review. Shop pages Directions and Call are buttons, sized and labelled, at the top of the page. They used to be a 14px unlabelled icon and a phone number styled like body text, both below the fold. A shop that has earned NSB Approved now wears the badge on the page itself, on the photo at the top, rather than in a strip you had to go looking for. Reviews Two new metrics: WAGL and S&S. Both optional, both free text, both show up on the card you share. Fixed Labels on colored buttons were close to unreadable - in some places the text and the fill were the same shade of blue. Every button now picks its label color against the fill it sits on. If your theme was set to System and your phone was in dark mode, the app flashed white every time you opened it. A long display name ran off the edge of the feed card and over the share and report buttons. The contact form no longer needs scrolling to reach the send button. On Top Reviews the top three were smaller than everything ranked below them. Number one gets the hero it earned. Faint secondary text was sitting just under the contrast level it should meet. It is stronger now.
