Train the Starting Strength way. The app plans every workout, adds weight when you're ready, and the AI Coach answers your questions between sets.
Meet your AI Coach: ask training questions, log or adjust workouts by chat, and build your own program — right in the app. New: Texas Method and Heavy Light Medium (HLM) for when novice progression runs out, save your own variation of any template, and train straight from your Apple Watch.

This app is a great meat and potatoes app to get into weightlifting. The free version (which I currently use) offers at least three to six months of starting workouts, form tips, and more. I’ve loved it for the past two months. Planning on upgrading to paid once I plateau with the beginning program.
Developer Response
Two months in and already thinking ahead to the next phase — that's exactly the right mindset. The free version gets you through the novice linear progression, and when you do hit that first plateau, the paid plan unlocks stall detection, deload guidance, and the Advanced Novice program to keep the bar moving. Glad it's working for you!
Still haven’t fixed main issues with v1. This is a pass again.
willkeller603
Why keep tracking your workouts for free when you can pay $15 a month for bad UX? I left V1 originally because you couldn’t customize it, like at all. Well their “fix” for this was to add a custom logbook - which doesn’t overlay or connect to the original program at all - so it is basically just a parallel log? I can do that on my own? They need to develop an app that looks like train heroic. The only consistently good fitness app for UX. I know Rippetoe hates technology with a fiery passion for fashion, but yikes dude. Get with the times.
Developer Response
Thanks for the detailed feedback — the frustration is fair. You're right that the Free Log and the structured program run separately right now, and we're not going to dress that up. The ability to add assistance work directly alongside your programmed lifts is a real gap, not a framing issue.A lot of what you're describing is actually being addressed in v1.1.4, which is currently in beta. If you want early access, email us at customersupport@strength.club and we'll add you to the beta list — your feedback at that stage would genuinely help us get it right before it ships to everyone. The TrainHeroic comparison is a useful benchmark and we take it seriously. UX is an area we're investing in, and we'd rather hear specific criticism like yours than polite silence.
Great app
All.is.well.
Read Rips book many years ago and have done the program on and off over the years, used the old app and now the newer version. It has been tremendously helpful in helping me attain my goalsMany thanks
Developer Response
Thank you so much — coming back to the program over the years and making it work is exactly what it's designed for. Really glad the app has been part of that journey. Keep adding weight to the bar!
No health integration
baguba55
Would be much better if it integrated with for example Apple health and the Iwatch to help track rest brakes and sets, etc., without having to have your phone on you. it’s been promised for a long time. It’s still haven’t published the capability. been putting my novice progression program and a StrongLifts to help track until this app becomes more usuable.
Developer Response
Thanks for sticking with the method despite the frustration — that's fair feedback. Apple Health and Apple Watch integration are in active development and included in our v1.1.2 beta right now, so it's genuinely close, not vaporware. We know "soon" wears thin when you've been waiting, and we're sorry it hasn't shipped to everyone yet. In the meantime, the rest timer on your phone is the most reliable workaround we can offer. If you want early beta access, email us at customersupport@strength.club and we'll see what we can do. Keep adding weight to the bar. — Starting Strength team
Made for iPhone Duo
• Open it like a book: every screen becomes a two-page spread. Pick a workout, chart, exercise or setting on the left and see it on the right.
• The tabs sit in the side rail with AI Coach as its own tab, and for Pro members the rest timer opens by itself when you finish a set.
• Folded, the front screen shows your current set and rest countdown at a glance.
AI Coach
• The coach now asks you to confirm before it changes your program or settings.
• Simple commands like "switch to kg" or "turn off the rest timer" work instantly.
Fixes
• Sign in with Apple or Google and shop links work again on iOS 27.
• The keyboard no longer covers the box you're typing in.
• Back in the Training Guide now returns to the exercise list.
• Apple Health sync is now set separately on each phone.
