Charged when I thought I was getting a free trial.
Jesus is the One for me!
I never meant to buy this. I only wanted the free trial, but they charged my card anyway. I tried to get a refund through their site, but it claims I have no eligible purchases—which is obviously wrong. There’s no phone number, no email, nothing to contact them.
Developer Response
Sorry this happened — we understand how frustrating that is.A key point: Apple handles all subscriptions and charges, so refunds and purchase eligibility are tied to your Apple purchase history, not a separate website. The “no eligible purchases” message usually means the charge wasn’t found under that system. You can contact us:In-app: Help/FeedbackEmail: support@woodsensepro.comPlease message us with a screenshot of your Apple receipt (hide personal info if you want). We’ll check your subscription status and guide you to the correct refund steps right away.
Unacceptable inaccuracy
General or experienced DIY’r
Identification accuracy based on labeled samples of wood. 2 correct out of 16 and it couldn’t even identify pine, teak, mahogany or rosewood or cherry correctly. Completely inaccurate 10! this included Pine, Cherry, Sapele, Teak, and Mahogany, etc..Partial identification 4! This category included woods that correctly identified the kind of wood not the variety. English oak, as oak.red oak as white oak. English walnut as just walnut.Black walnut as just walnut. Correctly identified. 2Padouk Zebra wood I downloaded the app to identify some of the project woods I had accumulated over the years and didn’t know what they were. After a couple of questionable identifications I decided to identify a group of marked samples I had from an online supplier. I left out some of the more uncommon ones and used the more common woods used by hobbyists and professionals alike. The results were so far from accurate I don’t understand how they advertised it as an identification App. I would never trust anything with a 2 out of 16, real world accuracy rating. The great thing is that if you have any wood that is chocolate or brownish in color, 90% of the time it’s walnut.
Developer Response
We’re really sorry — and thank you for running such a careful, labeled-sample test. A 2/16 result (and common species like pine/cherry/teak/mahogany being wrong) is unacceptable, and the “everything becomes walnut/white oak” behavior you described is something we take seriously.Photo-based wood ID can be thrown off by finish/stain, glare, mixed grain, or distance, but we should still perform far better on common hobbyist/pro species and avoid “defaulting” to a single guess. If you’re willing, please email support@woodsensepro.com so our team can investigate and use your samples to improve accuracy. Helpful to include:- the photos you used (especially any that became “walnut/white oak”)- whether the surface was finished vs freshly sanded/planed- device model + iOS version + WoodSense app versionTips (if you ever retry): take 2–3 shots in diffuse daylight — one face grain + one end grain (close-up, in focus), avoid reflections, and capture a small area that’s freshly sanded.
Inconsistent measuring units and listing identification
UnanimousT
Materials list: Metric. Hardware list: Metric. Cut list photo identification uses numbers (1-17) for example. Cut list is in standard inches and is identified with letters instead of just matching the photo cut identification with the numbers. Like the idea of this app as I’m a carpenter professionally signed up for a trial just to get some project ideas. I could see beginners getting confused or intimidated by how some aspects of the app are set up. Judging by some of the other reviews I’ve seen (after downloading and signing up for the trial) it sounds like this isn’t the only odd issue. Highly underdeveloped for the price you would expect a beginner to pay for the services provided.
Not a bad app
billybowjoe
It’s not a bad app but doesn’t let you look stuff up only gives you set items even after you’ve built the items they give you I like it just cant see my self paying for it just to not be able to look up stuff I want to build
Developer Response
Thanks for the honest feedback — we’re glad you like the app overall, and you’re absolutely right: without a way to look up/search for specific builds, it’s hard to justify paying. We’re working on improving discovery so you can find what you want to build (search + better filters/sorting), and reduce the feeling of being limited to only set items. If you’re willing, email support@woodsensepro.com with 2–3 things you wish you could search for (e.g., “garage shelves,” “coffee table,” “planter box,” “desk organizer”). That helps us prioritize the right categories and search experience.
