Begin with a campfire. End with a civilization that treats stars as infrastructure.
Embers to Dyson is an idle incremental strategy game about climbing the Kardashev scale: tap for your first sparks, build generators, unlock research, manage heat, ascend for permanent Insight, and push from planetary industry toward Dyson swarms and galactic systems.
You are The Planner. Your mandate is simple enough to fit in a meeting agenda: acquire more energy than yesterday. The galaxy does not care about your schedule.
——— BUILD FROM SPARKS TO STARS ———
Start with campfires, mills, coal, oil, and gas. Then watch heat become a real constraint. Shift toward solar, wind, fusion, orbital rings, Dyson swarms, and stranger infrastructure as your civilization learns to handle the consequences of its own ambition.
——— IDLE PROGRESS, ACTUAL CHOICES ———
Generators keep working while you are away. Research can finish in the background. Session tasks give you short-term goals without demanding constant tapping. Automation can buy generators and tune grid mixes, but the best results still come from understanding the system.
——— HEAT, STABILITY, AND ASCENSION ———
Growth is not free. Dirty energy is fast, but heat cuts efficiency. Galactic expansion adds stability pressure. When a run peaks, ascend to earn Insight and make the next attempt faster. The Planner does not mourn dismantled infrastructure. The Planner records the multiplier.
——— ACCESSIBILITY NOTES ———
Built to work with VoiceOver across the core game loop. Resource totals, session tasks, heat pressure, automation state, and ascension progress use clearer labels and summaries. The new civilization status readout condenses Kardashev level, energy trend, next unlock, current bottleneck, tasks, and automation into one readable surface.
——— THE KARDASHEV SCALE ———
The game follows the Kardashev scale of civilizational energy use:
Type I: Planetary civilization.
Type II: Stellar civilization.
Type III: Galactic civilization.
Your endpoint is a Dyson sphere, then the uncomfortable question of what to do after you can afford a star.
——— MOBILE IDLE PLAY ———
Play in short bursts. Check research from Live Activities. Return later to a civilization that kept working. Optional purchases can accelerate progress, but the full game remains playable without mandatory ads or paywalls.
No mandatory ads. No third-party tracking. Offline progress continues while you are away.
Scale up. Ascend. Build the sphere.
Dev, I love the idea. The grind is okay, could be better. A small 1.5x or 2x boost for milestones of individual generators (50, 100, 250, 500, etc.) would make it feel just a little bit more balanced. More ways to mitigate heat NEED to be added. Adding a little more documentation would also help, knowing how much heat something generates or degenerates as one example. Another being descriptions of the daily quests, guessing what I need to do based on the title is frustrating. The grid automations make no sense and needs either documentation or overhauling. The ascension system seems to be broken. I have over 100 insight but I can’t unlock any of the upgrades. And lastly… the shop. Having to “restore purchases” in order to unlock the automation or the almost nonexistent cosmetics is… an issue. Solving some of these issues will lead towards a better simulation. There are more including, tech and how there needs to be more to research before reaching stellar, especially because you can get to stellar before you barely have 1% planetary. I hope you are able to make these changes. I will update or make another review after there has been significant progress. Thank you Dev for giving me something to puzzle over (heat mitigation), and I can’t wait to see what you can do to make it better!
Developer Response
Thank you for taking the time to write this up — seriously, this is the kind of detailed feedback that makes the game better. You're right about the insight/ascension issue. There's a bug where insight accumulates correctly but the unlock thresholds aren't triggering properly — this is at the top of the fix list. The heat menu disappearing at orbital and the 'restore purchases' friction for automation are also confirmed bugs. Heat documentation (generation and dissipation values per building) is planned — it shouldn't be a guessing game.Your point on milestone boosts for generators is well-taken, and daily quest descriptions are being improved to be explicit rather than cryptic. The grid automation UI needs a full pass — agreed.Fixes are in progress. I'll keep shipping. Thanks again for the detailed write-up — it genuinely helps.
New Update Issue
Black–Star
I hoped on the game this afternoon and everything was reset, all my current run progress, insight, ascensions, and upgrades gone. However my Game Center still had my progress/leaderboard positions still saved in the settings menu. Is there any reasons for this?
Developer Response
I'm sorry. Version 1.9 should not have reset your run, Insight, ascensions, or upgrades, and I'm investigating the save path now. The fact that Game Center still shows your leaderboard progress is a useful clue, but it doesn't make the loss okay. Please email support@emberstodyson.app with "Black-Star July 20 review" and I'll take care of a make-good privately. Thank you for reporting it.
Needs work

Insight does nothing as you cannot use it, all upgrades remain locked. Once you unlock orbital level you can no longer have access to the heat menu to disperse heat. Not a lot seems to work the way intended. Hope dev works on it as the game is enjoyable at face level.
Developer Response
Thank you for the feedback — both issues you hit are real bugs that are being fixed. The insight system accumulates correctly but the unlock triggers aren't firing, so upgrades stay locked even with enough insight. And the heat menu disappearing at orbital is a confirmed UI bug.Fixes are in progress. Appreciate you playing and taking the time to report.
Fixes resource drain clarity and late-game matter loss. Positive and negative energy/matter rates now show with clear +/- signs and warning colors, resource drains are called out before reserves hit zero, energy-consuming generators can no longer push storage below zero, and completed Dyson coverage no longer keeps spending matter.
