BandJam - Music Competitions
best music taste? vote on it.
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
BandJam is a league-style music game where friends compete over multiple themed rounds. Players submit tracks, vote with up/down feedback, leave comments, and progress through rounds while viewing standings, league breakdowns, and rich per-player stats. The app streamlines league management with invites, public/private leagues, chat, notifications, playlists per round, and a clean mobile-first experience that keeps participants engaged from submission through results.
What sets BandJam apart is its broad streaming support across Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, letting everyone play regardless of platform. The “Best Friend” ranking and submission guessing mechanics add social deduction and bragging rights beyond raw scores. Advanced league analytics—round summaries, placement histories, best-friend wins, and detailed voting breakdowns—give players and admins deeper insight into performance and engagement than typical casual music games.
more This is FAR better than the competition. The only thing I'd ask for is a way to cap the rounds of a Crew Bucket-based league, so people can submit themes while having a regular league cadence. For example, cap at 5 rounds, it picks 5 themes, marks them as "played" as the league goes, then people can continue to submit and we have regularly selected winners. Thanks for the great app!

• Fixed a crash when opening Apple Music features while running on a Mac
• Fixed a crash while uploading a profile photo
• Players who left a league no longer keep a place in the standings
• Push notifications are now retried when they hit a temporary failure, instead of being dropped
• Added App Attest attestation for a more secure connection to our servers
1.14.1 10h ago
• Learn BandJam by playing it: the six-slide tutorial is now an interactive one that plays a real round in a demo league. Submit a song, vote, see your
results, and read the analytics, all before you sign up. Replay it any time from Settings, under Support.
• Change your mind about a guess: guessing a player on one song no longer hides them from every other song's picker. Players are grouped into ones you have and
haven't guessed, and picking someone again just moves your guess.
• Scroll back through chat: league and crew chat now load older messages as you reach the top, so your history stays reachable instead of stopping at the most
recent messages.
• Wrap up a bucket league: admins can now set a round limit on a running Theme Bucket league, so you can plan a finish without emptying the crew's shared
bucket.
• Fresh themes: Theme Bucket leagues now prefer themes your crew hasn't played yet, so a second bucket league doesn't replay the first one's rounds.
• The submit screen now describes the rules actually in force, instead of telling every league that songs can't repeat across rounds.
• The same recording off a remaster or reissue is now caught as a duplicate. Live and acoustic versions are still allowed.
• A player who leaves during voting no longer breaks the round.
• Fixed the results Interactions list reordering itself on every load.
• Fixed push notifications never arriving for some users, invite counts that never cleared, duplicate playlists when players submitted at the same moment, and
YouTube submissions failing after a token expired.
1.14.0 1d ago
• GIFs in chat: League and crew chat now have a built-in GIF picker. Search for one, tap it, and it sends.
• Know before you open the app: A count of what's waiting on you now appears on the app icon, covering songs to submit, votes to cast, and unread chat. It
clears as you catch up.
• Longer chat messages: Chat is now 500 characters instead of 280, matching the limit already used for comment replies.
• Sharper deadline countdowns: Countdowns now show hours and minutes alongside days, so a deadline 47 hours out no longer reads as "1 day". A deadline that
has passed says so instead of showing "0 hours".
• Fast Forward explains itself: Ending a phase early now tells you what the schedule will look like afterwards before you confirm, so closing submissions
early no longer quietly widens the gap before voting.
• Clearer submission rules: Leagues that don't accept YouTube links no longer mention YouTube on the submit screen, instead of advertising it and explaining
the restriction only after a paste was rejected.
• Read state that follows you: Chat read state now syncs between your devices instead of living only on the device that read the message.
• Fixed leagues that could never be started.
• Fixed crew unread counts not appearing until you visited the Crews screen, and a quiet league's unread indicator being crowded out by chat-heavy leagues.
• Bug fixes and stability improvements.
1.13.0 Jul 30
• See what needs you at a glance: new indicators point you to leagues with a song to submit, a vote to cast, or unread chat, plus a badge on your waiting
invites.
• Tap links right in chat: URLs you paste into league or crew chat are now tappable, so you can open them with a single tap instead of copying the text.
• Hear every song during listening time: in scheduled leagues, songs submitted as YouTube links now appear during the listening period, so Spotify and Apple
Music members can play them too.
• Clearer "Generating playlist" status while a round's playlists build, instead of buttons that aren't ready yet.
• Fixed a Scheduled "Generating playlist" card that could hang after a missed round transition.
• Fixed tick stranding and a phantom listening phase in Scheduled leagues.
• Bug fixes and stability improvements.
1.12.0 Jul 26
• Fast Forward a Round: everyone already submitted? League admins can now end the current phase of a Scheduled league early instead of waiting on the clock. Skip an inter-round break, close submissions, open voting, or wrap up voting. Choose whether the rest of the schedule stays put, shifts by whole days to preserve your cadence, or pulls back by the full time saved.
• Sign In with Email: sign in with just your email address. We send you a link, you tap it, and you're in. No password to remember.
• Fixed: Scheduled leagues now tell members when voting opens. Previously you were told the playlist was ready and then never heard that voting had actually started.
• Fixed: Scheduled leagues now advertise their real progress. Browse, invite details, and crew league lists were stuck showing "Round 1 of N" for the life of the league.
• Sign-in error messages no longer reveal whether an email address already has an account.
• Bug fixes and stability improvements.
1.11.0 Jul 22
• Change Start Date: Move a Scheduled league's start date any time before round 1 opens. Every upcoming round shifts with it, preserving your window lengths
and inter-round breaks, including any per-round dates you customised. Available from the home tab's pre-start card and from Edit League.
• Fixed reordering rounds in a Scheduled league: the dates now stay with the slot and the themes move between them. Previously the dates travelled with the
round, pushing out the apparent start date and letting rounds run in the wrong order.
• Fixed leagues created from a saved template with Scheduled pacing never starting. Their rounds were created without a schedule, so the league never advanced.
• Leagues that haven't started yet now show their start date rather than "Round 1 of N", and open on the correct card instead of a spinner.
• Bug fixes and stability improvements.
1.10.1 Jul 21
• Spotify Popularity Standings — See where everyone ranks by their average Spotify popularity, with the Hitmaker and Crate Digger called
out at the top and bottom of the league.
• More Words of Praise — Every kind word left on your songs now shows, not just a few. Tap any comment to jump straight to that round's
full results.
• Editable Deadline Time — Change a league's daily submission-deadline time after it's started; future rounds re-snap automatically.
• Easier Submitter Guessing — Optionally limit the "guess the submitter" list to players who actually submitted that round.
• Hold Comments Until Results — Optionally keep a submitter's own comment hidden from voters until the round's results are in.
Plus a batch of bug fixes and polish.
1.10.0 Jul 19
• Scheduled Leagues: Run a league on a fixed schedule. Set how long submissions and voting stay open, add an optional listening period before voting opens, and
put breaks between rounds. Rounds advance automatically at the times you choose.
• Submit by YouTube Link: Add songs that aren't on Spotify by pasting a YouTube link. Voters tap through to YouTube to listen. On by default for new private
and crew leagues.
• Bucket Mode Options: Cap the total number of rounds, and optionally remove each theme from your crew's bucket after it's used.
• Fullscreen Charts: Expand the points and voting-heatmap charts and rotate to landscape for a closer look.
• Submission comments now allow line breaks.
• Fixed notification taps sometimes leaving you on the previous screen.
• Additional bug fixes and stability improvements.
1.9.0 Jun 18
• Updated YouTube buttons to use the official YouTube branding, per YouTube API Services guidelines. Added YouTube API Services references in the privacy policy and terms.
• Improved push notification reliability so notifications recover automatically if your push registration is cleaned up server-side.
• Bug fixes and stability improvements.
1.8.3 May 10
• Fixed a layout issue where the Crew detail screen rendered wider than the screen on iOS 26, clipping tabs, stats, and buttons off
both edges.
• Newly-joined crews now show their avatar and banner immediately without needing an app restart.
1.8.2 May 7
Fixed song previews flickering and failing to play on the voting screen.
1.8.1 May 6

browsing experience.
• 25 new prebuilt category themes in the Category Bank.
• Bug fixes and stability improvements.
1.7.1 May 2
• Photo Prompts: add image prompts to round categories in private and crew leagues. Edit, replace, or remove the prompt photo on
upcoming rounds, and round cards now show a photo indicator so you can spot picture-prompt rounds at a glance.
• Theme Bucket for Crews: a new crew-league mode where rounds are minted dynamically from a shared bucket of themes instead of being
scheduled up front.
• Reply Threads: reply to voting and submitter comments on completed rounds to keep the conversation going.
• Hide Round Themes: a new option to hide themes on round cards.

Invites tab.
• League Finder Toggle: toggle on full leagues so you can browse them too.
• Bug fixes and stability improvements throughout.
1.7.0 May 1
• Smarter Apple Music playlist matching: studio recordings now win out over live versions, remixes, and covers. When a song can't be matched, you'll see a list of skipped submissions instead of having them silently dropped.
• Tutorial and What's New popups now appear on cold launches when you're already signed in (e.g. after an App Store update), so you won't miss what's changed.
• Guesser and guessed-player names now display correctly in enriched round results.
• Fixed an issue that could push round deadlines an extra day past the configured deadline hour during phase transitions.
1.6.1 Apr 26
What's new in BandJam 1.6.0:
• Richer results: Enriched results now show who guessed wrong on each submission, not just who got it right. Result labels are clearer too.
• Smarter warnings: Get a heads-up before submitting a song by an artist someone else already picked, and another before submitting votes without guessing every submitter.
• Cross-device vote drafts: Vote drafts now sync through your account instead of staying on one device — switch devices mid-round without losing your progress.
• Voting polish: Tap anywhere on a voting row to pick your guess. Initials avatars now show for photoless guessers. Song search clears and album art loads when you enter the change-submission flow.
• Support BandJam: Added a Ko-fi link in Settings if you'd like to chip in to support development.
• Bug fixes & improvements: Return key now dismisses the keyboard instead of inserting a newline. Multi-line comment fields restored with return-to-dismiss behavior. Playlist buttons gray out when a playlist is unavailable. Your cached user refreshes after creating a league.

1.5.0 Apr 6
### New Features
- **Optional Down Votes** — League admins can now enable down-voting for submissions. Standard up-only voting works great for casual
leagues, but competitive leagues often want a way to signal that a submission really missed the mark — not just that others were better.
Down votes give those leagues a sharper tool for separating the crowd favorites from the misfires, and since it's opt-in, casual
leagues stay unaffected.
- **Spotify Popularity Analytics** — Two new analytics cards have been added to League Analytics: *Hitmaker* (highest Spotify
popularity) and *Crate Digger* (lowest Spotify popularity). A recurring question in any music league is whether members tend to submit
well-known tracks to play it safe, or go out on a limb with deep cuts. These cards make that dynamic visible at a glance and add a fun
meta-layer to post-round discussion.
- **Voting Patterns Heat Map** — League Analytics now includes a heat map visualizing when members cast their votes across rounds.
Leagues live or die by participation, and admins previously had no way to know whether members were voting early, scrambling at the
deadline, or quietly dropping off. The heat map makes engagement patterns easy to spot so admins can nudge members at the right time.
- **Persistent Submission Comments** — Submission comments are now stored in a dedicated `SubmissionComment` collection in Firestore, so
they persist across rounds and are no longer tied to the submission document lifecycle. Comments have always been one of the best parts
of a round — the back-and-forth about a song choice is half the fun — but they were being lost when rounds closed. This keeps that
history around so members can look back at the conversation long after voting ends.
### Improvements
- **Song Search UX** — The search field label has been updated to make it clear that searching by artist name or album is supported, not
just song title.
### Bug Fixes & Performance
- Fixed league and player analytics not correctly accounting for in-progress voting rounds.
- Fixed image caching issues, a timer memory leak, and voting view render performance on iOS.
- General performance optimizations across iOS and Android.
- Firestore security rules updated to cover the new `submissionComments` collection.
1.4.0 Mar 11
New Features
- Editable Max Member Count — Admins can now change the maximum number of players allowed in a league at any time. The cap can't be set
below the current member count, so no one gets accidentally locked out.
- One Artist Per Round — Enable this setting to ensure no two players submit songs from the same artist in a single round, keeping the
listening experience more varied.
- Disable Submission Comments — Admins can now turn off the optional comment field on song submissions, useful for leagues that prefer
to let the music speak for itself.
- Remove Rounds — Admins and commissioners can now delete rounds directly from the round editor, making it easier to clean up mistakes
or restructure a league mid-season.
- Sort & Search — Finding your leagues is now easier with sorting options and a search bar when browsing your league list.
Improvements
- League standings and stats now persist correctly when a league completes, so your profile stats and historical results are always up
to date.
- Round progression is more reliable, and the app now captures ISRC identifiers for submitted tracks to improve accuracy in results and
analytics.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed an issue where the submission guess pool was incorrect in leagues with multiple tracks per round.
- Fixed the league home tab not showing the updated member count immediately after saving changes — you no longer need to leave and
re-enter the league to see it refresh.
- Fixed a bug on Android where opening the app would overwrite your custom profile photo with your Google account picture, causing your
avatar to appear differently across platforms.
- Fixed member avatars getting permanently stuck on a loading spinner when a profile image couldn't be loaded — they now correctly fall
back to the default avatar.
