FAT now scans loose fish at the seafood counter. Point the camera at the placard — the species name, country of origin, and farm or wild-caught identity — and FAT scores it the same way it scores a packaged label. A visual read cross-checks the OCR result against what the fish actually looks like (whole fish only; fillets and steaks are excluded). The FDA Seafood List now covers roughly 110 species, up from 23. Also, chicken labels now tell you more. FAT reads the USDA class name on any chicken product — Broiler, Fryer, Roaster, Cornish Game Hen, Capon, Stewing Hen — and shows you what it legally means. Each class name is a federal standard of identity (9 CFR 381.170) that sets a ceiling on the bird's age at slaughter. For example, Broiler label means the bird was under 10 weeks old; the industry average is actually 47 days. A Stewing Hen is a spent laying hen, 10 months or older — a completely different supply chain from the broiler you scan in the meat case. FAT Score — Now on Every Scan Every label analysis now includes a FAT Score from 0–100, built on two pillars: how much the label actually discloses, and how credibly those claims are backed. It is not a health or quality rating. It is a transparency index — graded A through F, with a clear explanation of what it measures and what it doesn't. Green Means Go. Red Means Look Closer. The app's green/amber/red system now runs consistently across every screen. Each transparency category shows a color-coded status bar — green for fully disclosed, amber for partial, red for missing. Credibility badges follow the same logic: green for independently verified, amber for USDA-reviewed, orange for label-only claims. Cleaner Language Throughout Technical terms have been replaced with plain English across the app. "Label Analysis" instead of bureaucratic headers. "What We Checked" instead of regulatory vocabulary.
